Have officials turned a blind eye to Burger? 01:52am on 30 Jun 2009 Flytaff, I know going to games can be pretty intense. I'm only 20 so don't really know how much it's changed over the years really. I like the way there's more songs/chanting at football matches but it often gets to the stage where people feel intimidated to the point of not going/not taking their kids. I don't see what can be done to change that though really to be honest. Are the fans more passionate? I'm not in a position to comment really.

Personally, I think gouging an eye is more cowardly than feigning injury though. "Simulation" (as commentators annoyingly call it sometimes), the lesser of 2 evils you could say.
Have officials turned a blind eye to Burger? 00:52am on 30 Jun 2009 I watch rugby union occasionally, usually only when England (or the Lions) play and not much else. I've never played the game. On the other hand I play and watch football regularly.

I think the footballing world can learn a lot from rugby, in terms of respect to the ref, respect after the game, and lack of diving etc. However, I wish some of you rugby fans would get off your high horses with respect to 'pansy footballers'. I understand it's a far more physical game than most other sports, but IMO that gives no player any right to punch, let alone eye gauge, an opponent. Eye gauging in particular is a complete act of cowardice, and I'm glad to say I can only imagine the uproar there'd be if it occured on the football field.

If I go out to play a sport, I'll be prepared to take knocks and the odd kick off the ball. But to know there's a fairly decent chance that I'd get smacked in the face, or even the smaller possibility of an opponent sticking a finger in my eye, I think I'd be less keen. I have friends who play, and one of them in particular comes back every other week with a fat lip.

There might be respect in many aspects of the sport, but this is one area where I feel rugby falls spectacularly short. A tougher stance should be taken before someone is blinded.

I thought that at 1st, but apparently he was given it by a fan so put it on. I think that's reading into it a bit much, having said that I do think he is on his way out. As much as I like him I don't think we can justify paying over £30m for him.
As for the 'fans' who booed when he was subbed, what were you thinking? How in your right mind can you boo the man who has arguably done more for this club than anyone else, and is the reason we are now level with Liverpool and in our 2nd successive CL final. It amazes me.

Well of course he wouldn't but then what manager would say that? Besides, that's not the point here at all. The ref got the decision wrong, simple as, it was just a mistake. The worst thing is that he had to send him off because he was last man and UEFA for some absurd reason haven't got the structure in place to overturn the decision. It's not so much about United missing Fletcher in the final, which we will, it's the injustice that he misses the final despite deserving his place there for his performances of late. They need to sort this out so it doesn't happen to anyone else in the future.
Shearer gets taste of reality 09:53am on 05 Apr 2009 I think that I may be the only person who fails to see the 'big personality' Shearer will bring to the dressing room. After seeing him countless times on MOTD, I'm struggling to see it to be honest. Also, as someone highlighted above, an unexperienced manager is not the man I would like in charge of my club if it were battling relegation. I'd take the likes of Sam Allardyce any day. Incidentally, it seems he wasn't doing too bad of a job there was he? Correct me if I'm wrong but were Newcastle not about 12th or so when he was sacked? Oh how they'd love to be up there now!
Sheikh ya money! 4:35pm on 15 Jan 2009 Not qualifying for the Champions League could inadvertantly be the greatest piece of business Milan ever do. Why is Kaka the chosen one and not, say, Messi? Because without the CL he's far more likely to switch to the Premiership. Because of this they have been offered £91m, which no player is worth. They've got to sell, it then comes down to whether or not Kaka can see City winning trophies.
I don't think he'd go purely for the money, from what I've heard he's fairly down to earth. But if he's promised more money thrashed around to give him a chance of winning the PL, I think he might just be tempted!

as stated by GazUtd in post 16, it's written by someone who seems to hate Fergie as well.

To talk about the game, i thought Chelsea weren't too bad in the 1st half, we only created a few chances but probably deserved our 1-0 half time lead. The worrying thing for them was their attitude in the 2nd half. They didn't seem like they wanted it, and never looked capable of breaking down our defense.

With regards to the fixture list, obviously it's not rigged or anything like that, but i do think it was disadvantageous. To play the 8 teams that finished directly below us last year in the 1st half of the season AND to play away after each CL game is extremely unlucky. It is to Utd's credit that despite this we are in the position we are in, and now have the easier run in. It's time to turn the screw now and go on a winning streak, and hopefully start scoring goals a bit more freely.

Burnley and Derby flying the flag for the Championship 1:32pm on 05 Jan 2009 People shouldn't be so quick to wite off Derby's chances. Fergie will persist in playing his younger and fringe players, a policy which I support but has lead to early exits in the past, like our 2-0 defeat to Coventry last year. Having said that, I could still see us beating Derby quite comfortably; it all depends if the team are ready to get stuck in or not. Burnley Spurs is a great tie, I'm really looking forward to seeing that one. Having beat Chelsea and Arsenal, they arguably deserve to win the competition!
