MotoGP 2009 on the BBC 1:05pm on 03 Feb 2009 Dear Points of View

The problem here is not the BBC but DORNA trying to get more money per country and so forcing Eurosport out. So we are all sad because the BBC cannot do what we wish.

Cox is like a wannabe Sid Waddell, it works for darts but not for motorcycling because it is not original and it is therefore not amusing. Parish is ok but as other people have said they lack what Moody/Ryder and Mamola have.

The BBC have had some of the greatest commentators in the business over the years, think football, cricket and golf to name a few sports where they have been exceptional. Now unfortunately the exceptional team has gone and we are left with an average one.

McCain's state - voting begins 7:30pm on 04 Nov 2008 I think people mix up these Blogs that give an appreciation of the "feel in the air" with straight news stories, hence ManfromMilan's ignorant post.

Both this blog and the one following McCain give the reader of the BBC a sense of the atmosphere to put meat on the bones of the straight news story that can be found elsewhere on thisa site. Both commentators have done an excellent job, you can sense the excitement with Obama and the rather lack of with McCain.

Don't shoot the messenger. Both are excellent writers who have given a taste of the USA voting process to us somewhat apathetic voters on this side of the Atlantic.

Having said that I'd rather Matthew be back in the UK being paid £18m for doing prank calls with my tax payers money.

Cough.

Keep up the good work, I will remember you guys tomorrow and look forward to 4 years hence if you are still around for the Obama / Palin battle then .. golly !

Father, in the name of Jesus, we come to You right now asking for a miracle in this election. Lord, we lift up to You right now Senator John McCain and Governor Sarah Palin. Lord, we ask that You would just wrap Your arms around them and their families at this critical time. Father, we ask for miracle upon miracle in this election. We know that only You can turn the tide of evil in this election. Father, as we await the final days of the election, we ask in complete faith that You would allow the truth to be known across this land.

Lord, we ask for forgiveness for putting You last…Father, please heal our land and homes, allow us to have another chance to love You the way you should be loved. Lord, we ask specifically for John and Sarah’s health, wisdom, words, actions and their campaign staff. Lord, we lift them all up to You now. Father, we also specifically ask for the voters in many states who are battleground states. Ironically Jesus worked on the personal level in Palestine and never really got involved in politics, so I think this person doesn't know their New Testament and their prayor will be in vain to an ambivalent God.

Fighting to the end 10:48am on 04 Nov 2008 #12 Pailin reminds you of Margeret Thatcher? How so?

Pailin plays on her background, brings her family to events, tries to find common ground with the female supporters. Thatcher downplayed her background, didn't need to find common ground with women etc and certainly didn't promote her family life.

She was a lot more astute and policially savvy as well.She's actually more like Obama, but without the same policies.

What victory would mean 07:49am on 04 Nov 2008 Excellent post Kim147. Nobody is perfect, only the extreme left and right wing bloggers think their person is always right and then other person is always wrong and that just not a credible attitude when it comes to politicians !

So, yes - realism but with hope. Obama might be a damp squib, but there is the potential for something great. Unfortunately the current occupier has left the house in a state of disrepair and where Obama would like to build a new level or extension he might spend all his time repairing the foundations.

McCain is a decent chap and tough as well, people have said about his age but he's done mighty well in a gruelling campaign and shown no sign of flagging or tiring.

I'm still not convinced he will lose, but that will be a travesty if he does not due to the feat spread by the US right wing
Too 'European' 07:10am on 03 Nov 2008 Excellent post there Matthew. I guess you can sum it up "Better the devil you know".

It's amusing that the US are worried about a "socialist" Obama but seem to have really liked a proper socialist in Tony Blaire, maybe perhaps because he was over there rather than in their own country.

It does seem that both candidates carry some risk, but isn't the USA the land of the brave, not hesitent?

Even if both candidates are bad when they are in charge they will only have 4 years, not a lifetime, neither will destroy America in that time, so that being the case, and considering the current problems, I think the gamble is well worth the risk.

Mind you I am over here and not over there, so can afford to be brave.
Why poll numbers vary 8:05pm on 23 Oct 2008 I love this uncertainty and doubt with the poles at such a late stage, makes it more fun.

From a Uk perspective where religious frenzies don't matter of course.
