Efficiency trap 4:50pm on 07 Dec 2009 Yet more uncritical coverage from the BBC. No surprise there.

As a public body the BBC shouldn't have a political bias. That results in plodding articles such as this.

'We all believe the savings are there to be had. We just don't trust the government to find them. '

No. We don't trust a government that has failed to recognise or address this problem over the last 12 years. In fact, we realise this government doesn't want to address this problem, because it goes against their tax and spend principles.

You suggest it is 'government' we don't trust, but that is rubbish. The government I don't trust is the one that has proved inept at dealing with the problems you describe for the last 12 years. 12 years!

What a disgrace the BBC has become with their selective reporting and pandering to their favoured political parties.

I'm sick of reading such biased views everytime I visit the BBC.

I would happily go elsewhere, but then why should I pay for a service I don't use?

'The City' has been an incredibly important part of our economy for the past 20 years. It is only over the past 10 years during Brown's 'era of irresponsibility' that things have got out of hand.

I don't remember 6 times stated salary, self-cert, 125% LTV mortgages being widely available in 1994. Do you?

I don't think this 'Lamont moment' is particularly relevant at all, except to introduce David Cameron as his adviser.....15 years ago.

Yesterday's BBC article placed a big focus on how big Cameron and George Osborne's respective hotel rooms were. A pathetic attempt to hint at largesse?

Brown's era of irresponsibility is the one he presided over and encouraged - via low interest rates, loosening legislation against bankruptcies and allowing the housing market to overheat.

Worse than that - the Labour party wasted away all of the proceeds on consultants, late and over-priced projects and trying to employ as many people as possible in government non-jobs.

5-a-day adviser anyone?
Robinson's curse 5:34pm on 13 Sep 2008 In 11 years Labour have achieved nothing but create an expensive, bloated, inefficient and unsustainable civil service, increased government waste ten-fold during the boom years and now left nothing to help the economy when it desperately needs it during a downturn.

New Labour is finally being exposed as a sham. It doesn't matter who is in charge. They could barely run the country during the biggest Worldwide economic boom we've ever seen. Now during the downturn they stand no chance.

Pension raids, devolution, violent crime persistently rising, grade inflation of GCSEs and A-levels, dirty hospitals, housing crash, millions economically inactive (but hidden from being unemployed), bloated and inefficient civil service, massive government debt (and rising), increasing taxes (often stealthily), crashing pound and a falling housing market.

What a great choice Labour were.

Can we now finally vote out and forget about this nasty, squalid little party.
What the worst downturn in 60 years really looked like... 11:45am on 06 Sep 2008 I find this article inaccurate, biased and naïve.

You take a current downturn which has barely begun (we are what....12 months in?) and then compare that to an inflationary, global economic crisis which occurred after several years of Labour being in office. The conservatives then happened to be in office for the first year of that downturn. So do you think they are to blame?

Raising taxes and cutting public spending were a necessity at the time to get the economy functioning again. The Tories made hard, unpopular but crucial decisions.

It is a disgrace that this kind of Left-wing propaganda is funded by tax payers. If this is really as critical as you can be about the current situation that New-Labour have got us into, then perhaps your would be more suited to a spell in Labour government - not as a supposedly partisan commentator on economic policy for the Beeb.
