Lions ratings 3:18pm on 21 Jun 2009 Firstly, I'll point out the fact that I'm Welsh, in case anyone wants to accuse me of bias, my view:

1) I felt Vickery was harshly dealt with in the scrum, but A Jones looked much better when he came on, so it can't just be blamed on the ref. The coaches were poor- if your man is getting murdered in the scrum, and the ref obviously isnt seeing it your way, realise this, and bring him off!

2) Worried about S Jones radar, a couple of glimmers of hope, but poor kicking, and I hope Hook is fit for the next test, with maybe O gara on the bench if needs be.

3) Give Mears a chance off the bench next warm up game, I believe he is our best 2, and needs to be given a chance to find form. Like most other Welsh posters, im wary of Rees, but the all Welsh front row looked good, though the Saffers had changed theres too.

4) Ithought AWJ edged POC today- he made a couple of great hits, and I think that POC was more 'noticeable' because people were looking for him to see what kind of game he would have. In addition, POC is no captain, that game showed it more than ever. Whoever is replaced, Hines should come in.

5) Play 2 new wingers in the weekday game- hopefully one will play well enough to partner Bowe next test.

6) M Williams at 7 please!
Lions must heed breakdown lesson 12:13pm on 07 Jun 2009 I don't see how people could want Wallace ahead of M Williams- MW will be a lot better in and around the tackle, which is vital. If we're going on form, and AWJ and POC are playing for the same position, I don't really see why POC should get the nod- being selected as captain is not enough in my eyes. Powell certainly shouldn't start, but needs to be given a chance as an impact player off the bench. 1/2p is struggling from playing with centres who weren't giving him a chance- a big difference from playing alongside G Henson, a player who is excellent at straightening the line, which helps out the wingers (the Paris game aside!)

Ecstasy risks 7:13pm on 19 Feb 2009 But Joe, driving after 4 pints of beer is also dangerous, it's illegal- I can't see why using E and driving wouldn't be illegal too.

As for the case of violence, the other guy is probably at fault then (no doubt he's tanked up on booze, and highly agressive because of it). If someone is friendly to the point of annoyance, then they should be removed from wherever they are, like intoxicated people. If someone turns around and beats someone using E up, then that's because the other guy is a thug- not because the user is too talkative!

The problem is politicians don't want to follow advice when it isn't what they want to hear. You only hear about the results of research if it backs them up.

As for using too much/ too many drugs being bad for you- is it a surprise? 'Too much' of something is, by definition, the very quantity at which point it becomes bad for you. Too much water is bad for you, too much food is bad for you etc. Anything in excess is dangerous. It's up to people to look after themselves.

Exactly how much authority did the ECB have to go rooting through Stanfords accounts? Surely they have to put their faith in the US bodies to make sure everything is above board with Stanfords companies?

I don't remember many people standing up for the ECB when they wanted to look through Zimbabwe crickets accounts.

Which is exactly what I said- I'm still waiting for further 'corrections' in the property market. Unfortunately I feel the governement may still try and prop the market up to stop the housing bubble contracting further.

All the same- its a bit off the point from the topic of the blog. My original point is that those of us saving up our deposits (which now have to be bigger due to the lack of available credit) are now worried that this fiscal easing will devalue that which we have saved, putting us back at square 1 (especially as the money is earning next to nothing while it is being accumulated at the moment!)

So on that basis, everyone hoping for a job is hoping someone dies or gets sacked or retires?

There are plenty of houses available at the moment, the problem is the prices are too high (in comparison with peoples wages). You forget in include the fact that plenty of people buy to let (including my current landlord) hence if I could afford to buy one of the houses on the market, it theoretically wouldn't affect the balance, as I was already occupying a house originally, except I now own it, rather than paying off someone elses mortgage.

All it is doing is devaluing peoles savings. I have been waiting for the housing market to correct itself, so I could get onto the ladder, for a while. Now the money I will have saved for a deposit will lose its value, and I'll be worse off than before. People with debt will just see the interest increase with the inflation, so they won't gain either!
Getting the recipe right 4:14pm on 09 Feb 2009 My views from the weekend-

* Wales looked good, then eased off. They may be kicking themselves if a loss in Paris, and winning the rest, leaves them in 2nd place.

* The Wales England game is a big one for me- even when Wales impress, they only beat the big teams narrowly (see Wales vs England 2005, recent win vs Australia). I want to see Wales beating England by a good margin this time.

* Ireland and France both looked in decent shape. Scotland need to find form on a par with some of their play in the AIs.

* Ronan O Gara should not be Lions number 10. I don't feel he quite cuts it when under pressure, but excels when his team aren't being matched by the opposition. Having said that, S. Jones place kicking, for all the talk about his consistency, was poor. Those points on another day could have been important.

* Regarding comments about England- I feel that England's cupboard is not bare. It's just it's easier to complain about that than face up to the fact that the coach isn't up to it. As Gatland/ Edwards/ Howley have shown, you don't need some talisman as coach, you need someone who can bring a plan to the game, and just get your team playing rugby, and working hard.
Torture allegations and UK-US relations 11:37am on 05 Feb 2009 Did anyone see Milliband on the news:

Every time he was asked if he knew about it, he would answer
' We do not condone or advocate the use of torture.' (Or words to that effect)
getting more and more exasperated every time the questioner would ask him again if that meant he knew. He seemed to think he just had to keep saying this and eventually the interviewer would suddenly think that this answer meant he didn't know.
