Map of the Week: Road crash victims 09:28am on 31 Jul 2009 How do the maps for ambulance response times compare with those for road deaths? I would have thought the death rate in rural areas would be higher because they are further from hospital treatment.
Is producing human sperm in a laboratory one step too far? 10:08am on 08 Jul 2009 Making sperm is an obvious, easy first step for differentiating stem cells and has no ethical implications whatsoever. I make millions every day without involving a lab. The ethical implications only appear when you decide what to do with them (much like the ones I make myself).

Of course, you could take the Monty Python approach and say "Every sperm is sacred".
Gender, pay and 'misleading' stats 08:33am on 13 Jun 2009 It would be even more interesting to see pay differences broken down by number of years in full time work.
The team that brought you the new Radio 4 web site 08:32am on 02 Apr 2009 It's all gone a bit commercial TV and lowbrow marketing for the masses.

For me, radio 4 is part of my day not something new I have to be sold. Using the web site should be like using my radio. The huge advert at the top of the page is completely pointless and just gets in the way of me choosing what I want to listen to or find out about. I'd rather go in, see "listen live". what I can listen to again and maybe a link to what's coming and that's it.

The little grey bar at the top is quite useful. Expanding it a bit and making it more obviously the controls for listening (and more continuous with the "On Radio 4 Now bar) would help.

On another note, it would be good if the "Now Playing" tab in the iPlayer included links to background information on the main Radio 4 site.

Finally, the change from rounded corners on the BBC site to pointy corners on Radio 4 is a bit of a clash.
Suggest a story 08:28am on 07 Feb 2009 The recent snow and the number of closed schools and absent workers it caused made me think. The reason schools tended to close was due to staff not being able to get there rather than any danger to the children. The reason business was affected so much was the long commutes to work being affected by snow.

So, why do we separate business and residential properties? If people lived close to work, they would be able to get there no matter what the weather threw at them. Far fewer businesses spew out clouds of toxic chemicals and noise than in previous years so that has gone as a reason.

Is it just planning inertia or is there a better reason?
