Historical Questions. 11:33am on 30 Nov 2009 Gosh, that was funny looking back at 2006. How keen and enthusiastic and bright and bubbly we all were then. What's happened?

AM Glass Box. 11:28am on 30 Nov 2009 GM, I did think of you when I heard the story on the news just now.

I wonder if, in some sort of Utopia, there could ever be a system of licences for the owners of dogs, along the same idea as the driving licence. A test or interview before you got the licence & were allowed to own a dog. Where you had to give a realistic estimate of food costs for various types of dogs, vet's bills for various procedures, possible reproductive consequences for unspayed/ neutered animals, amount of exercise required, normal life expectancy etc. It wouldn't solve every problem, but it does seem to me that it's unfair that an animal's behaviour can be so totally in the hands of people who are not aware of the sometimes tragic consequences of not training and keeping a dog under control.

Btw,that phrase you used: "cheap labour" - was that a comment about a well-known political party, or did you really mean "free labour"? Because if the latter,this could be the BBC's contribution to the Government's new "intern" system, where they find unpaid jobs for those of us unemployed, unemployable, or just bone idle. Can I claim some sort of benefit while I'm reading these reports for you?

The Beach. 6:00pm on 24 Nov 2009 Lady Sue - no, the chocolate slabs were just roast peanuts set in a block of milk chocolate. Made by Whittakers. I just love the fancy name "Chocolate Peanut Slab" - trust Antipodeans to call a slab a slab!
Preston, those Minties do look quite dear, but note it's a 1kg bag. That's a HUGE amount of Minties. I should think you could lose the power of speech after eating that lot. Or grow extremely well-developed jaw muscles!
The Beach. 4:39pm on 24 Nov 2009 Lady Sue - MINTIES!!! You said a magic word there! We were reminiscing about them recently to our daughter- & deciding that with the amount of fillings we've got, you'd never eat one nowdays, so it's as well they're not around to tempt us! And Jaffas, how well i remember those. There were also some mint-flavoured green ones too - Snifters, were they called? And chocolate peanut slabs - did you have those? Now I'm realising just why I have so many fillings... :-(
