Back to plastic? 1:38pm on 01 Sep 2008 Just wanted to say thank you for this very informative blog which has kept me entertained over the past month.

I think that it has clearly demonstated to us all that even if we do not give up plastic altogether, there are many things that we can do to reduce our waste and to help the environment.

I at least hope to be putting some of the suggestions by people on this blog into practice.

Once a month 3:06pm on 29 Aug 2008 #12 I don't personally know anyone who has had Implanon inserted but I've been having a read around on the internet.

It appears that while many people have no problems at all, in a lot of cases it doesn't stop you having your periods and in some cases periods seem to last for months! In which cases other products are still needed. There also seems to be a lot of nasty side effects!

On a completely side issue, I'm concerned about the number of comments which referred to 'risk free sex'! STIs anyone...?

It definitely doesn't sound like it's for me!
Once a month 1:08pm on 29 Aug 2008 #3 I have just talked about my (fairly brief) experiences with the 'mooncup' in the previous post and I agree entirely, it's very comfy (though i have found the insertion and removal to be quite uncomfortable - though I'm sure it'll get better with practice). I hardly know I am wearing it.

Also (though this could just be coincidence), my period pains haven't been quite as bad for the couple of months I have used it.

Having a quick look at the Minx pads I might invest in some of these as well... I hate disposible panty liners so a couple of these might do the trick!
London bans plastic water bottles 10:15am on 29 Aug 2008 #29 - My partner and I always order a jug of iced tap water whenever we go to a restaurant and we have never had a problem... bottled water has never been forced upon us. Also I can only think of one occasion when it's appeared on the bill!

#8, #17 and #22 - I too would love to see some discussion about the different menstral products on the market.

I've been using a 'mooncup' for the last couple of months now and I already love it. I find it slightly uncomfortable to put in and remove but once in I forget it is there (something I have never been able to do with tampons and towels).

I actually bought one of these online a couple of weeks ago (and don't think I'll ever go back to using anything else!)

It only took a couple of days to arrive in the posty having ordered online and the cup itself came in a cotton drawstring bag placed directly in the envelope! No plastic packaging in sight!
Goodbye plastic (for now) 1:04pm on 01 Aug 2008 I'm looking around at my bought sandwich, crisps, chocolate flapjack and smootie drink and can't help thinking you put me to shame!

One thing I would be interested to know however... is what does the 72 (or 40%) cases in London look like when you calculate it as a rate? Per 1,000 people for example...

How does this compare with other areas of the country?

It's very easy to assume that London ahs a bigger problem than elsewhere in the country just because it has the largest proportion of cases, but it also has the largest population.
