That was horrid, Henry 11:23am on 20 Nov 2009 #492 - Just a minor point, if you're playing a game and take actions against the rules/laws of that game in order to win that would be cheating, so that is the correct term to use no?

Sadly there is a lot of this in sport, people are not playing to be fair they're playing to win. Doesn't excuse the action though.

Look what happened last world cup... [Unsuitable/Broken URL removed by Moderator] that's the World Champons their taking advantage of some not great defending to their advantage...

So the point is that yes it happens, it happens a lot and something must be done. FIFA need to take action on players who are dishonest or caught trying to bend/break the rules. The reason why people do it is only because they can get away with it so by clamping down you start to rectify the situation.
Have Hull had their Phil? 7:37pm on 02 Nov 2009 I'm sticking with Arsenal to win it this year. They're scoring plenty and whilst Chelsea look strong I think Liverpool & Utd will be fighting for 3rd & 4th with Spurs & Citeh.

We'll see how things stand at mid point, it's still very early days and pretty tight at the top.

As for the flurry of red cards at the weekend, was there a refs meeting recently where someone decided they were behind on their red card quota? Perhaps a far eastern betting syndicate was down a few chips? Uh-oh, probably be modded now :(

I've no idea who Rachel, John or Edward are tho...I suspect this is a good thing.
Cardiff & Forest - genuine promotion candidates? 5:06pm on 02 Nov 2009 As a Bluebird it is great to see us up there but I can't help that nagging feeling that we were doing well last year up until the end...

The great thing about the Championship is that it is always tight. Forest may find themselves in the playoffs, I suspect Cardiff will end up there also. To fall short of a play off spot again would be a huge blow.
The Kindergarten Cup 6:40pm on 29 Oct 2009 H2H - You're right that with some freak results a "top" team won't always win the cups. However, the top 4 don't bother with the cups because of the lack of incentive. I would imagine that chance of freak results are less likely if the Top 4 fought for them as fiercely as they do the Prem.

The current system though does work and if something works then best not tinker with it too much.
The Kindergarten Cup 5:19pm on 29 Oct 2009 Perhaps what would spice up the Carling Cup is if the winning team was awarded a CL place.

You could have the Premier League Champions, The FA Cup Winners and the Carling Cup Winners take three CL spots. The Europa League spots get taken by the teams in PL who have not already booked a CL place.

Maybe it's stupid but it would ensure more prestige in the cup...
The Kindergarten Cup 4:33pm on 29 Oct 2009 Re Carling Cup: great to see young talent, shame it's not taken a little more seriously by anyone (unless they win it that year).

Re Newcastle: Any fan suggesting they should be doing better when they're leading the Championship currently is deluded. If you fail to get promoted, which I thought was a dead cert pre season, then you might feel a bit hard done by...until then, give it a rest.

Re Crystal Meths: Just Say NO, just like Zammo!

As for the rest of the comments that have nowt to do with the blog, keep them coming, it's hugely entertaining.
Benitez's brinkmanship strikes again 11:39am on 26 Oct 2009 At it's current state the Premier League is very tight. The order of the top seven could be jumbled up totally after the next round of matches.

Point is, it's far too tight to look at Liverpool & United as the only title contenders this season and neither team look like they're about to break out of their shackles and charge off from the rest of the back, especially based on an overall poor game between the two.

Chelsea & Arsenal look the most likely at this stage to be competing for the title to be honest.
