England future brighter with Harmison back 9:29pm on 11 Aug 2008 I'm a big fan of Rashid, but i just hope he's not rushed into the England Squad as other young bowlers have been in recent years.
Pietersen fails to complete rescue operation 8:07pm on 01 Aug 2008 Bit negative to have KP's mistake as your headline when it could have been about his good innings which helped turn the game around from a tenuous, Collingwood's superb fighting century, or even our efficient bowling this morning. I agree it was a rash shot from KP. But his whole innings was filled with risky shots and it got him to 94. You don't mention the numerous times when such shots got him runs (most notably the two 'switch hits').

The game is still in the balance. If England can get near the 400 mark and the pitch starts to turn, we might even become favourites.

Saturday at Lord's - still a special occasion 8:45pm on 12 Jul 2008 Piers Morgan and Jeffrey Archer sat next to each other. A nice target to aim for, sadly the South Africans couldn't quite pick them out!
First day to the hosts 10:40am on 11 Jul 2008 Fantastic performance from England today, only loosing 3 wickets (2 to absolute corkers and another to a wrong decision). Was encouraging to see strength from the middle order after a solid start from the openers. The South African bowlers were largely disappointing however after being hyped up for the last few weeks. They struggled on a wicket, whilst not having as much bounce as they might have anticipated, still had something in it.

As for the Flintoff issue. As others have said, he is primarily a bowler and batting has been our problem in recent tests. Why weaken the batting line up to strengthen our bowling attack? Anderson seems the most obvious candidate to me. Our most inconsistent bowler and probably the most similar to Flintoff. I don't understand why there's talk of Vaughan moving aside for him when he he's been more consistent with the bat than others (Bell, Collingwood), and that's before you take his excellent captaincy into consideration. Flintoff has already stated that he does not wish to be captain.
