BBC HD: Wimbledon and some Top Gear questions 9:10pm on 05 Jul 2009 Just watching James May's report from America in tonight's episode should be enough justification to film Top Gear in HD, some of the shots in that were spectacular.
Neil Young on the BBC 10:44pm on 27 Jun 2009 I agree with all the comments about the BBC having known about these issues and choosing not to be up-front with the viewers about it. By keeping quiet about the lack of content from the headliners for reasons beyond the BBC's control has only got people annoyed with the BBC producers, blaming them for something they can't do anything about. Listening to viewers is supposed to be one of the BBC's core values, and you have alienated many viewers by ignoring repeat requests (not just this year but also in previous years) from licence fee payers for transparency in exactly what you are able to show of artist sets, especially headline acts. We don't expect miracles, if you aren't allowed to show it then there's nothing anyone can really do, but a bit of clarity and respect for the viewers wouldn't go amiss.
Open Post 2009-24-04 11:49pm on 25 Apr 2009 #30, niclaramartin: I wasn't aiming it at anything specific, just a throwaway comment that this blog ended up being a conversation about a single subject, thus not allowing other people to ask their own questions, which is the exact same problem being described by yourself and other posters. I was under the impression the 'open blog' is an opportunity to hear questions/feedback from many individuals, without focusing on a single topic/question. Unfortunately, this strange (apparantly 'successful') system has the major flaw which you described very well in comment #36.

Are there any plans on making 5.1 audio streams available on the HD iPlayer programmes that have it broadcast as such?
Why no Wire? 8:09pm on 01 Apr 2009 sorry for the double post, but just to clarify, 'Not available' is fine in the iPlayer schedule page (less clutter), but for the http://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes page I think there should be something a little more detailed/exact for each affected programme (expired/no rights/coming soon etc.) instead of the vague "Sorry, this programme is not available to watch again. Why?".

I agree with mbrodin, 'Not available' is simply not helpful. And putting blogs etc. after the time isn't very user friendly, not everyone knows that these things are posted on the blog/help pages etc. Having the reason listed on the programme page itself is a much simpler alternative instead of a rather unhelpful link to the possible reasons 'why can't I watch this?'. It also lends itself to openness and transparency which the BBC is supposed to promote.
BBC HD: What Works Best? 6:46pm on 24 Sep 2008 Re: Silent Witness vs. Heroes: Surely Silent Witness is a BBC production so rights issues aren't as much of a problem... in which case why is this the show scheduled on HD instead of Heroes, especially with the second episode following straight after and in HD? Given the amount of money the BBC paid for the series, surely it makes sense to show Silent Witness at another time and simulcast Heroes, especially with the storyline following on in the space of 20 minutes, there's then 7 days to show Silent Witness in HD before its own story arc continues.

The Tudors vs. Little Britain USA: Again, surely this is also a non-dilemma. The Tudors has a serial element, Little Britain are standalone episodes that can be shown whenever (ignoring the rights etc.) and do not need to be shown in order. Again it seems obvious to show The Tudors simulcast on HD?

I know there are further issues but from an outsider's viewpoint it seems fairly obvious what decisions I'd make about both clashes.
BBC HD TV Update: Jonathan Ross in HD 11:17am on 06 Sep 2008 daveac (comment #5): Sky have the TV rights to the US Open, which is shown on Sky Sports HD3.

I can't help thinking Jonathan Ross is a strange choice for an HD programme, as wonderful as it is, it is after all just a chat show. Though I assume one of the primary reasons for choosing this show is to test the studio out.

As for the DOGs, is there really much investigation needed? I've yet to see a positive comment on DOGs anywhere, so if you can show us the research that suggests DOGs are necessary then do so, otherwise just listen to the viewers and set a trend in the industry by getting rid of them from ALL BBC channels.
BBC Music Artist Pages Beta 11:59pm on 28 Jul 2008 Now that is rather cool! VERY good integration of Musicbrainz data into the pages, it's good to see this deal between the BBC and MBz is finally taking shape. Am I right in thinking that the tracklists and 'most played' tracks are sourced from the current Last.fm profiles of the various BBC radio stations?
BBC iPlayer Website Redesign 11:36pm on 03 Jul 2008 Like the beta so far, the schedule has been much anticipated by most users, and the upcoming is really useful. I do find the navigating around the various channels etc. to be quite complicated sometimes, and the A-Z is a bit overwhelming sometimes with the sheer amount of content! One minor improvement I can think of is when expanding the 'show more episodes' part in the A-Z, the episodes are in a completely illogical order. The most recent episode is rightly at the top of the list but then it jumps to the oldest episode below. Flip the expanded episodes around so the oldest episode is at the bottom of the list, so keeping the 'blog' idea of top posting new content, as done with the schedule sidebar. A long winded explanation but hoping it makes sense!
