England cannot replace Rooney 1:22pm on 14 Oct 2009 i would reply by stating that this blog is somewhat repetitive and predictable, but i suppose i would be repeating criticisms made by others, which would make me a hypocrite.

instead i will take a much more controversial line.

lots of people here have stated their belief that wayne rooney is not world class, and i agree with them in part. why is this? when he first arrived on the scene his talent was breathtaking, and he still shows flashes of his outstanding technical ability.

but i think he made a mistake by moving to manchester united.

what he has gained from it is an invaluable work ethic and winning mentality due to SAF and the teams success, but his technical development has been stifled, as he essentially became a servant to christiano ronaldo's brilliance.

my point is that SAFs specialty is producing winning teams with a winning mentality. arsene wenger's specialty is nurturing technical gifts. in terms of being most beneficial to the england team, arsenal would have served him better in my opinion.

i say this because the england team already has workhorses by the truckload; for us, finding a player with such technical prowess is the holy grail. i feel in this way, rooneys potential has been squandered because he has been turned into (as has been mentioned by a previous poster) "a workhorse, not a thoroughbred"

re: bell, i really thought he had cracked it this time, but again he fell short. when is he going to get big runs when it really matters?
Liverpool's elusive 'Man in the Sand' 11:03pm on 18 Mar 2009 it appears i have had my head in the sand about the man in the sand, because i didnt know much about any of this until i read mihir's blog, so i guess i found it informative.

but mr bose, i would love for you to give us your own opinion/a little bit of extra information when you write your blogs. it seems every time i read one of your pieces, i get a few facts without much in the way of analysis/evaluation/interpretation from your good self.

what are your thoughts regarding why the "man in the sand" pulled out of the deal? surely a man with your contacts and experience should be able to come up with a pretty accurate estimate of what really happened, or even speculate a few likely scenarios?

as to the midfield partnership of carrick and barry, i thought they were both magnificent last night.

carrick's passing was penetrative, barry full of endeavour, both were strong in the tackle, tactically disciplined and seemed to have a good understanding. an effective partnership.

currently, in terms of form and balance i would take a first choice pairing of carrick and lampard; carrick to break up the play and spread balls wide (for our newly pacy and confident wingers) and lampard to make those surging forward runs and drive the team.

gerrard is a talented maverick who doesnt easily fit into a disciplined international formation. he always tries to do too much, and i think his main role for england should be an impact player.

a wonderful problem for capello to have; im intrigued to see how he handles it.

with tony adams as manager, what are the chances of us getting someone like jack wilshere on loan, or one of the other players for a cheap fee when they dont quite make it at arsenal?

if you were already giving %100, then either increased in ability/physical capacity,you then would be able to give more than you could previously.

if this increase is more than double what you were giving previously then you have increased your efforts by over %100

what i was saying that in this concept the wages would be structured as such that the "capped" players would be getting pated more than "uncapped" players, therefore rewarding those that show loyal service.

earning your badge would require a significant period with the club while being a prominent member of the squad.

also, if you dont have the badge on your shirt then you cant kiss it

how about introducing a system similar to country cricket (the county Cap system)

senior players/players who have been loyal to a club for a number of years get to wear the full badge on their shirts, players who have just signed and give diddly squat about the club dont get to wear the badge.

earning the badge could also come with financial bonuses/incentives etc.
The long pursuit of Emile Mpenza 07:30am on 02 Oct 2008 i normally just read and digest these blogs without comment, but this one was so good that i felt compelled to flick my fingers over the keys in some words of appreciation.

my club portsmouth used to suffer from the same problem (attracting name players), but we made a massive breakthrough when we signed paul merson a few years back. since then the floodgates have opened and we have also developed a very fruitful relationship with arsenal (think campbell, traore), but in those dark times pre mandaric/merson, not many players would consider taking their careers any further south than london.

great blog paul. along with gavin strachan's intriguing player's view and the fantastic tim vickery there really has been some excellent posts lately that both imform us and inflame opinion. KUTGW
