Where would Sven exit leave Notts County? 06:43am on 20 Oct 2009 As a liftime County fan - how can this be anything but good for County? The Sven and Sol circus has been a needless distraction, meanwhile the actual games (remember them) have put us in a handy position near the top of the table.
Remember 6 months ago we were a club destined to fight relegation forever and we were perpetually broke. I can live with more Svens and Sols if the results on the pitch are good. Our rebuilt team needs time to gel and meanwhile has done well.
Better to go through this now, get a more realistic management team and get on with the season than drag it out until 2010.
Strauss's England worthy winners 01:37am on 24 Aug 2009 Great result, better than 2005 because England had to work harder, gimpy Freddie and KP. As an expat former Trent Bridge member I give an extra cheer for Broad and Swannie.
My 2p worth on 'free' tv vs Sky. You will never get the money out of major sport and you cannot roll back time, so get used to it! If you really want to watch live cricket, pay up! A sky subscription costs no more than a night out or a tank of petrol. Life is all about choices.
Big decisions need to be made 7:18pm on 31 Jul 2009 I still do not understand why you all expect free anything. Nothing is free, it is just a question of who pays. Why should the taxpayer foot the bill?
I would love all sport to be free but I have no realistic expectation that it will happen.
The BBC license fee should be used on preserving the cultural activities that it does so well on Radio 3/4 and BBC2 as these will rarely attract sponsorship.
If you want 'free-to-air' sport, then accept advertising between overs, sets etc. It is time for the BBC to take this step.

hyandell you are mistaken. Most of the major sport in the USA is truly free, the sports channels do not broadcast most of these events. I suggested in my previous post that the US model would work for the UK and provide 'free' coverage. In the US there is no license fee just commercials. This method is used to broadcast the Olympics, all major Baseball, Football (US), Basketball and so on. You need a pay channel to watch football (soccer) but that is a minority sport in the US.
Big decisions need to be made 8:24pm on 30 Jul 2009 Why must major sporting events be 'free'? As others have stated they are not truly free anyway (BBC license fee). There is no such thing as a right to watch sport without paying. People have a right to a home, freedom of expression, health-care etc. Sport is not a necessity.
Why should you get a 'non-necessity' free when it is not free to present and broadcast it?

It is crazy to have all this free coverage on a network with few channels like the BBC. The majority do not watch free events with a few exceptions, they still need to pay their license fee.

There is one solution not yet discussed. The BBC should sell commercials to finance the big events, they could then outbid the competition and make coverage 'free' to the viewer.

Monty is the most uninspiring person ever to pick up a golf club.
All the pressure to pick him is based on sentiment, not on any inspirational qualities he may have on the team.
Sorry, I am a hypocrite, it is only a cup competition, has no meaning to the rest of golf (except to UK fanatics). Pick who you want.
US team won in 2008 with inferior individual players than Europeans. The Ryder Cupis meaningless.
Ince forced out by fear factor 01:47am on 17 Dec 2008 Ince will have no problem finding a job in the lower divisions. No shame, the premiership is merciless. He has talent, he just needs more experience.
Blackburn should have no complaints, they plucked a manager from the lower divisions. If they did not have the money for a Capello or a Mourinho then shut up already.

Ok, I am mainly kidding, but there is a point to be made. The reason why the Brit fans stand out is because Boxing in the USA is marginal at best and there are no large groups of home fans. I am blogging here because I would not know that this fight exists if I did not log in the the BeeB to check on Footie and Cricket.

So do not criticize the fans, they are having a good time on a meaningless outing. Anyway, criticism of any standards in Vegas is ironic as it is the tacky, sleazy capital of the world.

You choose be bored or offended by financial discussions but would prefer to discuss team selection. You are pampered, spoilt victims of socialism! You expect football to be provided and be there to criticise, but do not want to discuss the money issues that subsidise your hobby.

The correct decision about a stadium will make the difference as to whether you have a team to talk about at all.

London should have 2 or 3 super-stadiums that teams share. They could have great spectator facilities and even a roof. Why stadiums are built in Britain without a roof is beyond my understanding?
