The Steve Jobs obsession 4:43pm on 26 Jun 2009 I would have to disagree with Mark MWFC. At work today I have been reading submissions from over 20 businesses for a contract with my company. Its not an IT contract but every single one of them mentions Steve Jobs and or Apple somewhere. Mentions for Bill Gates and Microsoft 1.
I would suggest that in the financial services community at least his visiblity is much higher than Mr Gates.

20 years ago me and some mates went to Parkhead for a Cup Semi Final. There was a crush, gates were opened and chants of "we want an ambulance" from the Rangers fans. We all thought we had been treated worse than cattle again. Then we went home and saw the tv pictures of the people dying,crushed against Sheffield steel barriers that buckled and tore.

Do former athletes make the best coaches? 10:48am on 09 Apr 2009 The best example is probably Sir Alex. I never saw him play but my Dad says he was never a great player at Rangers, but he tried very hard.
As a manager you couldn't say he has been anything other than Great.
'Vigilante retribution' 4:42pm on 25 Mar 2009 I can understand people have strong feelings about Fred the Shred. That doesn't mean its ok to trash his family home. I have read elsewhere that his kids have been verbally abused in the street.
Sorry but none of this can be defended by any reasonable person.
Anti-Americanism will continue, whoever wins 1:20pm on 24 Jul 2008 As a brit who has done business and travelled in America for years now, I have generally positive opinions about the states and its people.
Some people Europeans are "anti american" if you could call it that, because they have had bad experiences with Microsoft, Starbucks, Levi's, Apple etc and nothing more.
To be honest i think Bush is the biggest problem you have. I was in Houston when he was re-elected and was pretty surprised at how positive people were about that.
At home in the UK i have access through satellite tv to American news, as a result I get a pretty balanced view from US and UK tv stations and i can't remember the man sounding or even appearing like a president.

Replacing him with McCain isn't going to win friends and influence people around the world.
'Smoking ban' moment 4:42pm on 17 Jun 2008 I can see both sides of the arguement, the i'm old enought to get married, vote or join the army but i'm not going to be old enough to buy beer in the off sales. And of course the other side the youngsters drinking in the street or lane and usually causing trouble or at least a disturbance outside peoples homes.
I think that the SNP is trying to say between 18-21 you are a "new drinker" and can only do it in a pub under the watchful eye of the landlord/bouncer.
But once again it will be the poorest who suffer. The ones that can maybe only afford a cheap bottle of wine at home with the tv rather than a trip to the pub.
Too much iPhone? 3:49pm on 12 Jun 2008 I think its been pretty balanced coverage from the BBC. For example i can remember a huge amount of coverage of Microsoft Zune, and i have never seen anybody use one.
I think the problem for the BBC is that unlike other equipment designers and producers information from Apple is very tightly controlled. I have a mate who is a journalist and his mailbox is choc full of press releases from other companies on their products.
Any product information from Apple is very limited so gets a bit more coverage when it is launched.
