Is there a flaw in the 2012 legacy pledge? 5:09pm on 26 Oct 2009 The most likely reason for the failure of the Olympics in London, is the negative, cynical, can't do attitude of the British!

We're brilliant at presenting barriers and reasons why something won't work and terrible at presenting a good way round that barrier.

Why do you think the bloke who designed the Ipod is British, but living and working in America??? He remarked in an interview with Stephen Fry, that "an idea is such a fragile thing, that it needs nurturing and caring for, to bring it into fruition".

England discover ruthless streak 2:00pm on 28 Sep 2009 The fact that Smith wanted De Villiers to run for him was taking the mick a bit mind. Anyone who can honestly believe the two are of similar speed and athleticism, is slightly deluded!
Vaughan joins Test Match Special 3:11pm on 17 Sep 2009 Really please to hear that You have Michael Vaughan joining the team. He's very articulate and brings an awful lot of knowledge and experience to the team. I was very much looking forward to him going into commentary and am sure he'll be a success.

You will, however, have to stop calling him Vaughan, and refer to him as Michael, or Sir at the very least.
Carl Baker and Stockport - an example to us all 3:57pm on 14 Sep 2009 As was said above, the Premier League is not bereft of heart-warming tales, Lomana Lua-Lua returning for Portsmouth after his 18 month old son had died, comes to mind.

However, the generosity shown by Stockport is fantastic, and perhaps if the men in suits and the players on the pitch, in the Premier League, took a good look at this sotry, they might realise they don't actually need 150k a week to make them happy.

Maybe if the BBC were to give this story a little more exposure it would help reconnect the football world with the real world.
Dunga shows way to Maradona 10:52am on 14 Sep 2009 As a supporter of the team that gave the "Beautiful Game" to Brazil (Exeter City), I always feel a little proud to think that our humble little club helped one of the world's most famous and passionate footballing countries, on the road to success. Not bad for a team from Devon.

Full marks for Tim for his column, and even more brownie points if he can give me the results from Exeter City's tour of Brazil, without heading for Google or Wikipedia!
Alsop's fable - there's more to life than football 3:58pm on 09 Sep 2009 Good blog. Remember seeing Alsop when I went to Whaddon Road a couple of time when I was at Uni in Cheltenham. Reminded me of Exeter City cult hero Steve Flack!

Good to see he's using his initiative with this business of getting footballers into Uni. Some smart work there and think the PFA should jump on board with this.

I thought we were excellent in the first half, we defended in the Dutch half awith excellent pressure from the forwards and the midfield, we created a few chances but Young was marked out the game. Beckham had an industrious game and going forward Lampard and Barry did ok.

Barring the defensive blunders I didn't think we did too badly in the first half, although the back 5 in general looked a little shakey.

The second half we were a more dynamic and I think we out-footballed one of the best footballing countries there are.

Clough times at Derby 4:25pm on 28 Jul 2009 As an Exeter City fan, I know exactly where Nigel Clough is coming from.

In Paul Tisdale we have a man who thinks long term from the clubs perspective, but when it comes to the team he will focus all his efforts on extracting every ounce of ability possible from each player, and when they reach their limit he will look for a new player, provided they improve the squad.

Clough built Burton Albion up bit by bit, and progress was slow given their size but it's certain that he has left an impression on the club which will last a long time. Derby fans may need patience and to accept another season in the Championship, whether they'll have that patience I don't know. It's good to see these young intelligent English managers coming through and hopefully they will go on to be successful at the highest level and one day, we may even see an Englishman in charge of a successful National team again!
