Legislative programme 5:17pm on 03 Sep 2009 Quoting 51. that is an interesting viewpoint and doubtless when your Scotland has withdrawn from NATO etc. and explained its neutrality to the USA and UNO the Islamic Fundamentalist terror groups will all recognise Scots people around the world and they will all be safe!

You seem confused by this, yet France, Holland, Scandinavia et al are all free of terrorism because they didn't join Bushs' millenium crusade. Whereas we have had an (admittedly failed) attack on Glasgow airport.

You also seem to forget that England is the only developed nation on earth that can have massive flooding and a hosepipe ban within a hundred miles of each other.

As for the SAS thing you are quite right that it is impossible to know the exact make up of the current special forces. Yet it is true that in the 1980's (Iranian embassy time) the force was "60-70% Scots" according to former SAS sergeant Eddie Stone. Chris Ryan and Andy McNabb also mention scottish, welsh and irish people disproportionately often in their memoirs (late 80's to mid 90's), mostly as lower ranks and NCO's.

But, then again, if the facts mattered to you then you wouldn't be a unionist.
Legislative programme 5:05pm on 03 Sep 2009 Agree with 54 Wee Scamp. Ian Gray is trying to confuse the issue by feebly trying to separate the economy from independence. Why does he think we want out? Because we are sick of subsidising England. Up until recently the only part of the union more economically productive was london, but now the "invisibles" are gone there is no economic arguement for staying in the UK. admittedly there is a social element, such as encouraging immigration (and distancing ourselves from the growing support for official racism in England), getting rid of the nuclear sites we are forced to hold on to for the English etc etc. But this is about economics. This is about Scotland being able to recover from the recession, not to be used as a tool to help Cameron bail London out of it.

And it doesn't surprise me in the slightest that the unionists are giving it the Scotland is too weak, poor and stupid arguement, the only thing i can't work out is are they dumbe enough to genuinely believe it or are they like the politicians who just say it because the alternative is catastrophic for the rest of the union?

As for the english referendum, first thing the English need is a democratic voice in the north. They are in the exact same position as scotland (ie second to London's interests) and its no surprise that the feeling of disenfrancisement is providing a breeding ground for the BNP and UKIP.

Government unlikely to fall - yet 3:44pm on 24 Aug 2009 Tony Blair agreed in 2007 that the "compassionate" rules would apply to Megrahi to, surprise surprise, help London based companies cash in. Now the foreign office pressures the release of a man who has 3 months tops to live and then washes their hands.

Party politics gone into overdrive, and the result is Scotland has been tarnished internationally and it will only be London Labour who benifit (cause suddenly Browns out of the spotlight).

A shocking case of political assasination, the SNP should call an election now and wipe holyrood clean. We've been weakened so much for the benifit of the union (or London, i forget), this must surely be the last straw

The best part is this is the closest the unholy alliance has come to unseating the elected government, but they cant take the last step cause they will lose the election. Expect the smear campaign to really ramp up over the next few days, headlines to look out for are:

"Salmond joins Al Qaeda"

"Big Eck was real Lockerbie Bomber"

"Scottish Government would have released Hitler"

"McAskill and Megrahi Secret Love Affair"

And, most far fetched of all: "We had nothing to do with it: The Foreign Office speaks"
A massive swing 5:29pm on 24 Jul 2009 #66 Nick, you said that the conservative vote had increase; Brown said that it went down. Which one is right?!

As a rule of thumb, if there are two views on what has happened/is happening and one comes from "Labour" and the other comes from any of the other 5.9999 billion people on earth the latter is right.

There's nothing sadder than watching a government on life support, if you thought corruption was endemic now just wait till they realise they'll be out in the cold anyway.

In a proper democracy there would be some way to pull the plug on this sort of self-serving, fill-your-boots government.

If people can get out of jail if they prove, essentially, they don't belong there surely we can punt people from government for the same thing?

Whats the point of having accountablity when these people are invincible for another year?

If any "labour" members are reading this please, please, please do whats best for the counrty, not whats best for yourselves. It might be tempting to hang on till May and get all those juicy expenses but this is not a private company you are deliberatley screwing over, its 4 entire nations and 60 million people.

A message to you, Rudy! 3:54pm on 24 Jul 2009 I've never understood the socialised medicine arguement, and personally believe its used only by the people who profit from America's health nightmare and those who have been conned/bought by them.

After all the "socialised" police force and fire service work fine.

Imagine a policeman demanding thousands of dollars before trying to catch aa burglar, or firemen demanding to see an insurance certificate before putting out your house fire?

As for the NHS fair enough its not ideal, and there are people who work there at all levels who are not up to the standard expected in such a crucial service, but there are a far greater number of people who work harder and cheaper to compensate for them.

Being able to treat the sick regardless of profit is a sign of how advanced European society is socially, not only compared to the 3rd world but also compared to America.

And its worth any price.
Devolution poll 3:15pm on 30 Jun 2009 The bailout of RBS was a godsend for the unionists. Gave them a chance to give us (some of) our own oil money back and talk about how benevolent the almighty union was. It was right up there with using anti-terror legislation to destroy Iceland's economy as a cheap political points-scoring excersise

The Westminster government will do anything to discredit nationalism, lie, cheat, steal, and they wouldn't be that desperate if they didn't neeed us, nor would they actually subsidize a seperate country that wants independence for hundreds of years, thats just stupid.

Only answer is they need us, we don't neeed them so batten down the hatches and pepare for an avalanche of bile and slander over the next year followed by an Iranian Style referendum which will prove 350% of scots favour giving up devolution, self government, freedom and prosperity and becoming a race of serfs for our London Masters.

P.S. If your looking for an evil, amoral propaganda mastermind Karl Rove is out of a job just now, he seems just the guy to help the unionists out...
