Why should Phil have given online column inches to the WAGs and their antics? That's what Heat, Hello and various other tabloids are for. BBC sport focuses on reporting on the sport itself, and thank goodness for that.
Can James answer England call? 7:27pm on 08 Oct 2009 PS agree with a lot of what Gunner Jake says. Almunia (if he's already got the British citizenship?) is as English as most of Arsenal's local fans. North London is an amazingly multicultural place, so a Spanish-born player is effectively as British as the rest of the community he's playing in!
Can James answer England call? 7:24pm on 08 Oct 2009 Most football fans, including myself, have had concerns about the lack of quality English keepers for years. David Seaman said something about it when he retired over 5 years ago, and what has been done about it? Not much that I can see.

Saying that, I like James as a player and a person and wouldn't begrudge him a few final caps on the biggest stage of all.

Chelsea will suffer if transfer ban stands 6:43pm on 03 Sep 2009 Let's be honest, this isn't about one teenager. Chelsea have been warned about tapping up one-too-many times and this latest case was probably the last straw for FIFA. Saying that, I hope other big clubs (even the ones I like) get the same comeuppance, because the transfer market needs disciplining.

On a separate note, this could be a blessing in disguise for Chelsea - they can break even sooner AND give their youth academy a chance to prove itself.

Ince forced out by fear factor 6:20pm on 16 Dec 2008 Ince speaks fluent Italian, doesn't he? Maybe he could work in Serie B, or whatever their version of the Championship is. Good luck to him, whatever he does. I'd have liked to see him turn the corner, but I guess the club need to think realistically about whether they can risk falling even further behind...
Incey Whingey 7:25pm on 08 Dec 2008 How much experience did Southgate have before taking over Middlesbro, how much experience did Zola have before taking over West Ham yet noone mentions them? Southgate had a really bad run last year and West Ham have been the worst team to play at Old Trafford this calendar year. And people are going on about Shearer taking over Newcastle?

I understand your points but I'm inclined to disagree. Southgate got away with it because he'd played at the club and already knew its squad and backroom staff inside out - it would have been harder for him to manage a different club in a lower league, than his own former Premiership club.

I've also heard plenty of criticism of Zola's West Ham reign, so I doubt his inexperience has been let off. And only the tabloids seem to keep going on about Shearer's return to Newcastle...something I doubt the man himself has ever seriously considered.
Incey Whingey 7:07pm on 08 Dec 2008 Never mind Ince...it's Scolari everyone's out to get. Poor man's only crime is to play entertaining, sometimes-fallible football, and what does he get for that? Criticism he lacks Jose's consistency. All anyone talks about is his lack of a plan B...who cares when Plan A works 8 out of 10 times and brings a glut of goals when it does?

Having said that, the 2 times out of 10 it DOESN'T work will probably go on to include the CL and FA Cup finals, but you get my point.
Liverpool top, but for how long? 12:27pm on 02 Dec 2008 Didn't see the game...but even if the result IS a lost opportunity for Liverpool, if you'd offered their fans the chance to be top of the table by just 1 point at the start of December, they'd have taken it with open arms.

Disappointing, yes. Disastrous, hardly. At least the star goalscorer (Torres) still has his heart in playing for the club, which is more than can be said (I suspect) for Drogba, Ronaldo, maybe even Adebayor.
