Are our job centres working? 11:58am on 17 Feb 2009 Dear benkerdan. Some advice.

Ring HMRC Tax Credits helpline on 0845 300 3900 and get them to calculate your tax credits based on THIS years income instead, as your income this year would be less.
If your income for the current tax year is expected to be less than last year, you may be entitled to extra tax credits. This may give you something.

Use use of the term Meeja is ironic. Defined in The Oxford Dictionary of New Words as "A respelling of media, meant to represent a common colloquial pronunciation of the word." It is considered humorous or dismissive slang....similar in style to term "Guardianista".(look that one up as well)

What frustrates me when we get documentary style TV presented often by people with little in depth knowledge of what they are talking about. Anita Rani for example last visited a Jobcentre when she graduated from the University Of Leeds. She seems to be a classic meeja guardianista, having studied broadcasting and started off as a researcher. May I suggest a little research yourself before you have your next pop.

Are our job centres working? 8:37pm on 16 Feb 2009 What exactly do "White Collar" workers want from the Jobcentre? As stated by the JC+ District Manager it can only display jobs given to it. Employers need to realise that they can access a pool of unemployed people completely free of charge, advertise the jobs nationally online and via Jobpoints completely free of charge and if they are prepared to consider longer term unemployed people, as well as cherry picking the just unemployed, they can access matching and fitering services. What we are getting here is a tranch of people use to getting their own way in life, used to getting certain standards of service, used to getting well rewarded to their work. Now they have to mingle with the normal joe public they don't like it. Well I'm sorry.. welcome to the real world. The Jobcentre is all we have. If they would prefer a privatised service were they are filtered out by age, sex, race etc by 'consultants' only interested in the botton line sobeit. I'd like to see Recruitment Agencies banned from advertising at the Jobcentre as all they do is give duff vacancies and skew the market. I'd like to see a doubling of the numbers of 'Personal Advisers' perhaps recruited from the real world. I'd like to see a publicity campaign ran by the Jobcentre to get more 'serious' jobs on the boards. I'd like to see some more time given by the meeja concentrating on the good things the Jobcentre does. I'd like the white collar uses of this broken system to realise that there are hard working (and genuine) civil servants all doing their best during this time to help those less fortunate than themselves and a little thanks (even if given through clenched teeth) will go a long way.
Feeling the job crunch - Christine's story 08:45am on 11 Feb 2009 1. She worked her way up to a high salary. started PT and then went FT, I assuming getting pay rises along the way. now when she is on the dole she expects to get a job offering the same term & conditions as the one she's left. Is she not being a tad unrealistic and forgetful. Perhaps she needs to contemplate starting at the bottom again.
2."I love to change the direction of my career" Why didnt she do this BEFORE she was made redundant? Why should the taxpayer fund aspiration? There are plenty of opportunities to retrain whilst working, i myself did an Open University course when working 10 years ago. (funded out of my own pocket)
3. Most training available to Jobseekers after 6 months is based on confidence building and getting people entry level skills. The training most jobseekers seem to want would last 1 - 2 years before they could call them self qualified. Why should tax payers fund this? I really feel she should examine or ask at the Jobcentre exactly WHAT is available beacuse i feel what she wants is not available.
4. I'm sorry but the major feeling I'm getting from Chrsitine is one of arrogance and snobbery. One good tip is to do some voluntary work when signing on the dole. The Jobcentre won't mind and it keeps your mind occupied. It also proves to your next employer that you don't stay at home watching daytime telly.
Are you worried about your job? 09:57am on 21 Jan 2009 The caller on todays phone-in made my blood boil when she carped on about how her husband was only looking for a job that paid the wage "he was entitled to". With that type of arrogancve, no wonder he's out of work.
Your stories of unemployment 11:35am on 10 Jan 2009 My suggestion is to encourage those seeking work to not set the bar too high. Try not to chase a jiob that offered the exact same terms & conditions as your last one. remember you have have earned pay rises & promotions through your hard work so you will need to rdemonstrate that hard work again to get the same pay.
Crackers.....and choruses 08:16am on 29 Dec 2008 We never actually got the answer from the amateur boxing coach from Bethnal Green as to how many of the 200 fights in the olympics had a knockout?

May I suggest that as these fighters were the pinacle of the amateur system that they have the boxing knowledge & speed to AVOID Knockouts and the lower ranks at local level have more.
A forum for fraudsters 11:30pm on 28 Aug 2008 This is sloppy journalism.. any fool can cut and paste from a website. wheres the beef? What have you actually done about finding out who this perosn actually is. Has the spiit of Watergate some how passed you by?
