I'm a Bournemouth fan and as such was around when we became the first community owned club. To this day I have no idea what that really means and to what extent if any 'the community' had a say in how the football club was run thereafter. I think it was just a financial bail out frankly, which is fine by me.

You make an excellent point though Matt in that it's the supporter that generally forces these clubs to over spend through pressure applied from the Terraces and the forums online, they don't automatically become responsible and realistic if those same fans take over the club. Not sure what can be done, apart from rely on Natural selection, the weak must go to the ground - however sad that may be.

Good blog though and fun to hear that Peter Reid story in a different way. When I first heard it; it was said that he just took them all down the local pub - now it's Champagne followed by "Romeros" - not quite as working class but funny all the same I suppose.
Brazil's Confederations Cup dilemma 08:47am on 16 Jun 2009 I have the benefit of writing this after watching Brazil stagger over the line against Egypt. Admittedly Egypt looked lively and I am looking forward to seeing them again, that doesn't take away from the fact that Brazil looked like Bournemouth at the back though!!
Who was their left back?? Blimey, terrible.
Lucio looked lumbering at best and Alves really hasn't even been told he's a left back. Bring on Brazil next summer I say.
T20 Tizzy 2:27pm on 15 Jun 2009 Summed up my feelings well Robbo. Twenty20 is something I've started to like depsite myself.
I suspect we are probably like the people who moaned when the first cars were rolled out. "OOh" they said, "it'll never catch on, I prefer my transport to go very slowly and uncomfortably, occasionally dumping a large lump of excrement by my foot, and bolting at the sight of a small dog" That's the proper way to travel.
Blocking for twenty overs and the taking the light for a draw on the 5th day is what Cricket is all about. Still, Chris Gayle smashing a six into the pavilion is nice to watch once in a while eh?

The article is a nice PR spin for Rio, he seems to going for the vacant Princess Diana / Jade Goody slot in the British psyche. I hope he gets it.

I would like to point out that the rules that ended up with us having a points deduction are ridiculous.

It is a proper catch 22 situation.

The Inland Revenue state that when a club is in administration the tax bill has to be number one priority.

The League state that when a club is in administration the players wages must be paid as a number one priority.

That is why no club is able to get a voluntary agreement to come out of administration and everybody ends up getting a further deduction of points. The rules say that if you don't get a voluntary agreement with all the creditors you must be punished again. The problem is that the rules also preclude you getting a voluntary agreement with all creditors. Catch 22, it's like 70's Russia.

That's why we (probably rightly) got 10 points deducted last season for going into administration and then punished further this season for coming out of it without a voluntary agreement - madness.

Glad I got that off my chest.

Coping with high altitude 08:52am on 03 Apr 2009 Great blog as always Tim. Love the up all night chat as well. Where else can we hear your ruminations on South American Football?

As for the altitude debate - how many of the Bolivian National team live and play at altitude all the time? It can't be many, surely the good ones play in Mexico or Brazil, so my point is that surely the acclimatisation issue is the same for all involved. Or are we saying there is some sort of genetic abnormality in Bolivians that make them supermen up high - unlikely I'm sure.

Capello's balancing act 11:35am on 27 Mar 2009 Nobody has mentioned that Kings injury is very mysterious. Perhaps Capello just didn't understand it the same way that I don't. So many players have bad knees - they go and get it treated by a specialist in California who uses a golden scalpel no doubt - why does King keep going in this odd, no training, play once a week manner?
