Hailing the Unsung Heroes in sport 3:19pm on 09 Oct 2009 There's far too much of this sort of thing these days. Sports Personality of the Year? Harmless fun, you may argue, but think of all those who don't make it. There's only one winner. It's a disgrace. It breeds disappointment for so many.

The ramifications of the Singapore race fixing verdict 09:06am on 23 Sep 2009 Far from putting people off F1 this kind of scandal makes the sport far more interesting. Let's face it, with all the risks being steadily removed from motor racing at this level, the sport is in danger of becoming dull and predictable. It used to be a matter of life and death, and yet people were dedicated to taking part in motor racing even in those days.

If F1 is to survive it needs scandal and intrigue now that death has (thankfully) been taken out of the equation. There's no such thing as bad news (unless you count Moseley and the little fellow), and this season has been all the better for the Renault farce.
Vaughan joins Test Match Special 10:16pm on 17 Sep 2009 I disagree with mickemmo. Getting the score right and knowing immediately who is doing the fielding isn't what I particularly want from commentators. Malcolm Ashton is there to give the score and Blofeld's confusion is quite endearing. I hope Vaughan will get out of the habit of muttering "SHOT" before the commentator has described the play. It really could get frightfully irritating. I really do.

Warne has also saved some criticism for the dusty Oval pitch which he believes England deliberately doctored.
Warne believes the pitch - which produced huge plumes of dust and variable bounce from the first day - gave an unfair advantage to England when it batted first.

"No one expected this pitch but you would have to say it has been doctored to produce a result," he said. "With the wicket, what you want is a fair contest.

"But this was an ordinary wicket. There was too much favouring whoever won the toss.

"On these sort of wickets it lowers the standard ... every bowler becomes dangerous."

Funny thing is, the Aussie bowlers didn't look dangerous. They were playing on the same strip, weren't they Warney?
Dogged Manou finally rewarded 5:10pm on 31 Jul 2009 It's an absolute disgrace that Strauss allowed Manou to play at such short notice. Would Ray Illingworth have allowed it? I think not.
Tales from Turnberry II 07:07am on 18 Jul 2009 I was astonished to see that Vijay Singh, an experienced golfer, seems to be holding his putter rather awkwardly. Surely there are enough people with teaching skills at Turnberry to show him which hand goes at the top. It was one of the first things I learnt. Is he doing it deliberately?
Brilliant Strauss leads from the front 8:49pm on 16 Jul 2009 I don't know what's going on with these young whippersnappers who seem to think that the history of Test cricket has nothing to teach them. It is an eternal truth that the discipline of Test cricket requires a completely different mind-set from that of the wham-bam thank-you-m'am limited overs rubbish that we have forced down our throats via interminable and meaningless series of one-day internationals which, like outbreaks of amoebic dysentry, seem to be happening somewhere in a remote corner of the globe at any given moment of the day or night in spring summer autumn or winter.
Why oh why do the likes of Pieterson and Flintoff not learn how to play correctly a forward defensive - a la Jeffrey Boycott, Trevor Blainey or Jim Edrich, three batting stalwarts of the English game, to name but three.
