'Crown jewels' list sets arguments raging 10:17pm on 19 Nov 2009 One thing that has happened is that grass roots sport has suffered greatly over the last 20 or so years from massively reduced government funding or support (selling off of school playing fields, etc), so it has come down to the sports themselves to find the money to invest in the lowest level of these sports. Is it any wonder then that these sports need to go out to the highest bidder?
To those complaining that the money doesn't go down to the lowest level, this is the fault of the sporting bodies, and how they distribute the money, not which broadcaster. One thing you can be sure of is that if there is less money as a result of being forced to be on terrestrial, then even less money will make it's way to the grass roots.
Sensible Strauss just the tonic 10:02pm on 08 Jan 2009 Agree with post 6. After the Pakistan series victory, I felt then that Strauss should have got the job, not Freddie. Shame it has take the ECB a long time to realise this.

People see him as a soft touch, but just because he is softly spoken, doesn't he is soft, far fom it. I believe he has the steely determination to succeed, and has shown the tactical nous to do a good job.

Let's now drawn a line under this sorry saga, and support Strauss as we head towards the Ashes. The Aussies are still strong enough to win, but are there for the taking, so if we aren't fully prepared we could miss a great chance to regain the Ashes.
