Murray nears the summit 08:44am on 18 Aug 2009 It was inevitable someone would quibble. Now listen, fergaljpc - Federer is often and rightly praised for the length of time he stayed at No 1. How did he stay there? By winning the points. Well, a great number of those points were gathered at Masters and other non-Slam events - the ones you want to ignore.
Joe Louis was World Heavyweight Champion for about 12 years. When boxing fans admire him for that, nobody expects them to remember every opponent he defeated in those years. If the "minor" tennis events didn't have any "bearing", players wouldn't enter them.

No Bible for second oath 10:28pm on 23 Jan 2009 I am fed up to the back teeth with Americans going on and on and on about their consitution and the so-called founding fathers. These men were not interested in what we call democracy. They shaped the constitution with a view to excluding ordinary people as far as possible from the process of running the country. Franklin, the most famous of them, was a slave owner.
As for the advantage of having, unlike the UK, a written constitution, this is debatable, because the lawyers can twist said written document to mean what they like. Was it last year the legilsture of one state (maybe Georgia, can't remember) managed in its wisdom to say that the passage about the right to bear arms is NOT concerned specifically with an official militia?
It is crazy to think that a document written so long ago can be some kind of infallible - almost holy - guide for the present day.

No, Chary8, it's you who are talking nonense.
"Faith" is the opposite of "thinking". The intelligent non-religious don't have faith, they believe that for which there is evidence. Look up the word faith. It actually means belief in the absence of evidence.
Taxing issues 10:28pm on 01 Dec 2008 Jeebers, the Monroe Doctrine you mention is one of the reasons the USA has made itself so unpopular. "As long as the the rest of the world stays out of North and South America" indeed! South America has damn-all to do with you. You don't own it. It's not your "backyard".
As for those who can't read your long posting, the poor dears have been reading too many tabloid newspapers. Maybe you should break up the text with some pretty pictures.

Haye has mouth - and plenty of trousers 12:52pm on 16 Nov 2008 In this fight, I wouldn't say Haye was "slick". He was frequently untidy, and seemed far too prone to getting into a brawl. Then there's the question of power. If he had really carried all his power up from the lighter division, would he have needed that many knockdowns to stop Barratt, who doesn't have the reputation of a man with an iron jaw?
Good luck to Haye, but I can't see him beating Vitali K.

Ben, did you ever actually SEE the peak Ali? That's the man before his argument with the US government. In those days there was plenty of boxing on TV, and extended highlights of many of Ali's fights were shown on, I think, the Wednesday BBC "Sportsnight". If an opponent managed to land one punch on Ali it was an event.
