Re some points made above. Hardly the word's greatest sportsman is he? He's got incredibly rich from hitting a ball round the golfcourse. Same as racing a car, playing football and even overpaid actors. All need some talent and a lot of luck.
As for charity, an awful lot of people give to charity but don't make a song and dance. Becks not only gives money, but his time and his name to charity events but gets a lot of bad press.

And, I totally agree with canutesquare.

If that had been even a Prem footballer they'd have beaten the door down by now. How dare he put them off till he's ready! They should have been at the hospital waiting for him. Probably waiting for "Hello" maagzine to call.

And as for biggest sporting story of the year! Why? American golfer, had row with wife, forgot to put on seat belt, crashed car outside, now okay - that's it until we hear further. Hardly as exciting, for me anyway, as Spurs beating Wigan last week 9-1. Some need to get a life. Next week's chip wrappers methinks.
Capello's World Cup contenders 5:04pm on 15 Oct 2009 Well this is interesting, and of course postees have personal opinions like mine or not like mine. I've kept all the Daily Mail so-called sports writers' lists and it will be intersting to see how good their predictions are. Shame, as a couple included Ledley King but I feel this won't be. I'd like to say that as long as Defoe, Crouch and Lennon go then I'll be happy but of course it needs to be the best 11 playing. Rooney will undoubtedly be the most important player to me. As for C Cole/ Bent or Heskey, I simply couldn't say I'm afriad.
The goalkeeping situation worries me as I wouldn't like to choose between Robinson and Foster after Green and James. Not a lot of confidence there.
One thing I find very annoying is this worshipping of Walcott and how he's a certainty for the team ad the 'plane. How//! As said last night there are 4 games left and he hasn't even played in the last 2. One good game and a LOAD of injuries, I just don't get it.If you need speed and crossing there's Lennon. If you need accurate crossing there's Becks. And finally if you need speed and goalscoring there's Rooney and Defoe.
I simply cannot understand the Beckham haters, especially in the media . Too many are guilty of this and I feel he has to go to SA. If the media are daft or hypocritical enough to say that Owen can come on and change a game late on, then what the heck did Becks do yesterday??!! Did you hear the applause when he came on - 50,000 can't be wrong. There are some pretty sad people (postees on bbc606 conduct hate-campaigns about Becks and base their opinions on his private life not the football), why not back off and just enjoy his skills? Forget the publicity circus that surrounds him and his family, all the man wants to do is play football and I'm sure he'll go down in English history as one of the best of his generation. We ALL know Crouch should have been Man of the Match and as a supporter of many years I don't need an overpaid journo to tell me this. Crouch seems pretty level-headed and decent guy so I doubt he's that bothered whether he gets MOTM as long as he's playing and scoring.
Boy do I not want Fabio's responsibility on this - the media will have a field day and there are still 8 months to go.
Get behind the team like we supporters will be.
Map of the Week: Trust and Belonging 3:11pm on 26 Jan 2009 4, 6 and 24 - totally agree . I fall into the 50+ group and I'm sorry that I know very few DECENT LOVELY people whether at work, shops or in the street, its all self-self-self and I find it worrying.

Recently I wrote to small company to point out they'd spelt the fruit blackcurrant wrong on their website, apologising of course if they were American. It wasn't a large website but I was asked WHERE? Surely the designer of the webpage could find it??!! And form then on nothing. Does anyone ever care anymore about standards? It seems not.

After over 30 years in the Civil Service I recently left, broken and shattered . So many played the system and bosses were too frightened to sort them out. I carried so many rubbish colleagues, worked so hard and got nowhere as I didn't have the "PC" credentials used nowadays. And NO I haven't left with a massive pay-off and have to find work for the 10 years before I get state pension - thanks Labour for that! AND I earned less than the National average . Wake up public and get the facts before you continually pick on people "as a whole" - but then I guess with our media its very difficult.

Only our media could waste 3 pages on a Treasury party when kids are dying, some of our hospitals are in a mess and most people want to emigrate thanks to the mess Labour has got us into. In every occupation you find situations like this, whether they choose to knock nurses, footballer, city kids etc - concentrate on the important issues. And when they talk about how the credit crunch affects "families" think of how it affects us ALL especially singles.

Maybe we need to get our backbone back and start telling Europe and the US to go away, we have enough problems of our own. Even our Mayor allows everyone to party except the English on 23rd April. Why do we continually put up with it?. People should integrate here more with us, not us bowing to "foreigners" all the time.
Benitez continues defiant approach 12:20pm on 11 Jan 2009 Totally agree with Rafa - he said what most of us non-Man U fans think , and do stop accusing him of ranting - it was controlled. The only one of the so-called top 4 who don't bleat all the time is Liverpool, I'm sick of Man U and "The" Arsenal putting out reserves and disrespecting games/cups and saying the FA and world is against them. Man U flew half way round the world for a pointless cup then moan about the fixtures. Get on with it - if only you had half the problems long-suffering fans have at present with finances etc then you could moan. Think of those poor Man City and Blackburn fans yesterday who paid good money to get to grounds only to find the games off. And while I'm on the rant myself, isn't it about time teams like Portsmouth came into the 21st century with their facilities and I don't just mean undersoil heating. There should be good facilities, catering and toilets and the ability to see the game and a screen for BOTH fans. The FA /Barclays should be looking more at these problems.
England must raise game in Zagreb 3:40pm on 07 Sep 2008 Yes I watched the game but yep I know its persoanl preferences but I totally agree with Midland 20. Even the blog said Walcott was good for 15 minutes. All that running like a headless chicken doesn't impress us all so what about the remaining 75 minutes? A couple of goals, a new number and copy-cat celebration for Arsenal doesn't make him good enough to step up to the England seniors at all. Better keeping him in the juniors where he can shine at his level.
I realise we can't find the Pearce's, Sheri, Shearer etc in today's game BUT surely someone has pride and passion left when they pull on that shirt? Definitely needed Owen and Gerrard out there, maybe Bentley also, Young perhaps. Whilst I'm not a Man U or Chelsea fan and don't rate Terry or Lampard I think Ferdinand does a good job and Woodgate would be great alongside him. A Cole is only there as we have no other number 3. For all the money in the world rather Capello than me, I can't see we have that much coming through the ranks here, and I've watched football for 50 years.

PS I know its not at all important to most people but would someone teach them the National Anthem! Other nations put us to shame. Knock Becks all you like but to hear the likes of him, Adams, Pearce etc singing in years gone by helps motivate surely?might
