Beckham gambling in Milan 5:23pm on 24 Oct 2008 Actually, the Galaxy and the MLS, as well as Beckham himself do have lot to lose -
if gets seriously injured over in Italy, that's it for him, for the Galaxy, and the MLS.

I think it's still farcical to me that the MLS speaks as if it owns Beckham = how does that work in the US, this whole "packaged image" thing? Why is the Commissioner of the MLS speak out saying that this move is good for the MLS? It has nothing to do with the MLS. This is all Beckham's doing, selfish as that may sound, he is trying to stay true to himself, to be fit, so that he can continue playing for England his country, rather than just be a show-piece puppet for the MLS and the Galaxy.

Capello doesn't have much to lose either - he has done well without him, though Beckham's substitute appearances have been good performances - he still has a wonderful touch with the crosses with pinpoint placement - it's the Strikers that need to trust the ball is coming in and attak them.

I hope Beckham does well, I hope he gets to play a few full games at Milan though we all know he's got stiff competition there - but most of all I hope he can stay injury-free and be great for 2 more years to lead England through to 2010.

You know what's going to happen?

Say they contractually schedule a few games to go overseas - and I say a few games, meaning they would only want to schedule games that the Top 5 or 6 EPL clubs who are well known and popular throughout the world.

Then it turns out at the end of the season that half of the big name clubs end up near the middle of the table to play a meaningless final game abroad, and nobody shows up to watch it because there is nothing to be played for, and the big players do not want to play, either -

unless, of course, contractually, because it is a special game abroad, they all get paid big money.

THAT is simply going to ruin the whole concept and it will NEVER happen.
Riquelme - one of a dying breed 8:03pm on 06 Oct 2008 I think Riquelme is playing in the wrong position.
He should play like Berbatov does, as provider-striker with another strike partner, as the holding-striker up front, instead of the holding-midfielder role that he plays now.

But then again, with such prolific attackers in Aguero, Tevez and Messi, it's hard to just plonk Riquelme up front.

In a way, may be it's the formation that needs to change around him, as pivot - and perhaps Argentina needs to play 4-3-3 and nothing else, and put Riquelme in the middle up front to pull the strings from there, to draw attention to himself so he can thread the passed to Messi and Aguero coming from either side. Then, Tevez, who is a little bit more zippy, could sit right behind Riquelme and move the ball around excitedly. That should free up the back to come up the sides, as well, since Tevez is also good at hustling back.
Time for Capello to deliver 5:14pm on 04 Sep 2008 I've asked before, and I'll ask again:

Do we really need 3 (THREE) Goalkeepers in the squad. Really?

Can anybody tell me, statistcally, when the last time was that we actually, really, needed all 3 goalkeepers???? Please?

So why not remove one and take Owen?
Capello may regret Owen exclusion 8:33pm on 01 Sep 2008 I have to ask, in this age, do we really need to take 3 (THREE) Keepers? Really?
When was the last time, statistically, that we ever needed to have 3 Keepers in the squad and actually used them all in a 2-game span like this?

So, in light of seeing Owen not included this time, I totally agree that he should've been included and one of the Keepers dropped.

You don't expect them to win everything, do you?
Of course you can expect England to lose everything stupidly which would be no surprise to anybody, but surely you're being a little facetious to take away credit from the Argentinians?

The world has changed. Haven't you noticed? Football is seriously global now, and will be even more in the future. The game's level has been raised elsewhere. Pretty much the entire Brazil team plays in Europe to the point where they can put a whole side together to play in Europe without calling anybody up to come over from their home country! That was unheard of before. It was still mysterious to see fantastic footballer every 4 years show up to the World Cup, players we had never seen before.

Dunga just had the wrong team out there.
Host nations should be made to qualify 8:43pm on 06 Jun 2008 In the new world order of globalization and equilibrium, it's still not fair for the smaller, poorer nations, no matter what happens or who says a Host nation should be made to qualify -

simply because you wouldn't stage a competition as large as the Euro solely in a very small country in a poor economic state - because the rich and powerful nations that represent the things that are good in the world need their silly creature comforts of good hotels, good food, good beer, good overall facilities at safe and secure locations.

That is all.
