You don't cast aside points for drawing a cup match, you just end up with an extra game - poor show Phil...
Paraguay's remarkable progress 5:16pm on 16 Sep 2008 Would just like to say thank you Tim for your ever-informative blog. I'm a big fan of most of the content from the BBC journalists but can honestly say that your work is the most consistently incisive and thoughtful, and free from hyperbole and sensationalism. A hugely illuminating and non-condescending way to expand my football knowledge in an area I am all too ignorant of!

Taking the Mike 2:36pm on 15 Sep 2008 Spot on Robbo. Small team living off past memories that most of the fans are too young to remember. Cannot stand the team or the self proclaimed 'best fans in Britain' - hope they get exactly what they deserve and become the next Leeds.
What makes Phelps so special? 1:26pm on 13 Aug 2008 I think one or two of the above comments are a tad unfair on Phelps. Yes, he competes in a sport where it is possible to win multiple gold medals unlike, for example, rowing or sailing. However, that cannot disguise the fact that what he has done so far - whether he gets 8 golds or not - is simply incredible. Bearing in mind the short recovery time between events, a la Zapotek although obviously far shorter distance, and the fact that every gold thus far has been achieved with a world record he has been nothing short of sensational. It may not be possible to make a direct comparison between Phelps and Lewis or any of the other great Olympians but that does not detract in any way from Phelps' achievements and is entirely right that the BBC should continue to sing his praises.
