No nudges, no winks 01:43am on 05 Jun 2009 When will people learn? Every Labour administration ends in tears and deep in the red. If you voted Labour you brought this on yourself.

It's only relatively recently Labour became the "second party", now they're going to be consigned to third party status if not the rubbish bin of history. Could any government have got it more wrong?

For your information, Gordon Brown is a politician not a civil servant. Civil servants pensions aren't "fat", most civil servants earn an average of £16K per year with a commensurate pension, and suffer an 18% reduction in comparible pay levels to allow for the pension, plus another 12% reduction for 'job security' (a thing of the past).

Well, since the Speaker has himself ridden roughshod over 400 years of Parliamentary practice (not to mention the precedent of a member of the governing party being installed as Speaker in the first place), this would be poetic justice, would it not?

Regaining parents' trust 1:06pm on 18 Sep 2008 Let's hope basic safety checks have been done on the huge glut of China-manufactured toys sold to parents in this country. Is the paint toxic, for instance? We've no way of knowing - is someone checking such things here?
All back to normal? 5:41pm on 17 Sep 2008 I'm disgusted that the BBC showed wall-to-wall coverage of the "able-bodied Olympic Team GB" but Paralympic coverage was tucked away in tiny soundbites on evening news bulletins and very hard to find elsewhere.

Our Paralympians did better in their Games than "Team GB" did in the overhyped first set of games, and deserved at least as much coverage.

Why didn't they get it? Don't use the excuse that the BBC suits public taste - the BBC's remit is to inform and educate as well as entertain, and leading public thought on diversity is a duty (and an honour) that shouldn't be shirked.

It is unlikely a secret service agent (MI5), who deal with domestic intelligence, would have committed a crime in Russia.

Overseas intelligence operations are the purview of the SIS (popularly known as MI6).
