The Danny Baker Show on BBC Radio 5 live*

Danny BakerWhen BBC Red Button brought its cameras into the BBC Radio 5 live studios to give viewers a glimpse behind the scenes of the 606 football phone-in show last year, Danny Baker and Tim Lovejoy were among the presenters. Now Danny's back with his Saturday morning show for the 2009/2010 football season and the cameras are continuing to roll!

As well as seeing the man himself (possibly wearing his favourite pirate hat), digital viewers pressing the red button can send in texts and pictures to be shown on screen.
These will be accompanied by all the great content you might expect from 5 live: the weekend's football tables, fixture lists, upcoming commentaries, sports news and details of upcoming Red Button content. Plus, look out for some rather more unexpected content: spoof fixtures and unique animations as Danny sets up audience head-to-heads on the phone.

Brett Spencer, Interactive Editor at 5 live, discusses the visualisation in more depth on the station's blog.

CBeebies Red Button

New CBeebiesBBC Red Button welcomes younger viewers and grown-ups with a sense of adventure to a big, bright and fun new world. The CBeebies interactive service has relaunched!
Now your children's favourite characters are at the heart of the interactive TV experience. A big, new and bright carousel now greets visitors providing easy access to games, other children's interactive services such as karaoke or quizzes, birthdays and star of the week messages.

Different Games
Reflecting the popularity of games for the young audience, a new range of activities has been specially created. The updated service brings with it brand new games for some of the most popular shows on CBeebies, including In The Night Garden and The Green Balloon Club. These new games replace the old ones, which had become increasingly outdated.

Satellite and digital terrestrial viewers will have slightly different offerings from one another. This has enabled us to offer the best games tailored to each system.

BBC Children's producer Damian Vicary discusses the service on the Press Red blog.

CBeebies Red Button is available now on the CBeebies channel, and via page 5900 on other channels.

The way this is all being treated like a cloak and dagger mastery I'm getting a horrid feeling that the Freeview and Freesat (still) platforms are going to miss out on some substantial content, it's funny how the BBC can publish the schedule for the two Friday practice sessions but not inform us what the race and post race schedules are going to be, these will have been fixed in stone since the F1 race dates were confirmed...

If you think us Olympic fans gave you a tough time wait till the F1 crew realise they're getting nothing on Freeview. Every single interactive feature listed above is down as "not available on Freeview", which is absolutely pathetic when last year most weekends the two streams were dedicated to F1.

Paralympics - bloody curling again. Will the Opening/Closing ceremonies be shown?

As for other features - always thought the BBC News School Report thing was a complete waste of BBC resources and whether there is one or one hundred interactive streams available it's not worthy of being aired. And as for "singalong" - haven't those who used it heard of subtitles? Failing that rather than putting the subtitles within the video feed wouldn't it be possible to generate them on an MHEG over the BBC1 pictures instead, freeing up the other stream.

Similarly any progress on having the audio options incorporated directly into the BBC1/2 feed rather than requiring an extra video feed?

Very poor coverage of the Paralympic games there BBC. No wonder why Channel 4 got the rights to London.

No opening/closing - even without commentary would be better than nothing. I also see on eurovisionsports.tv/olympics that OBSV will be producing a 55 minute programme daily, no chance of that on the red button? Well thats a dissapointment. Oh well, Eurosport are showing some sport (not the ceremonys either actually!)

Secondly, track cycling thats poor coverage as well, when I can see hours upon hours of it per night live, and BBC are giving us an hour or 30 minutes on the Thursday. It's OK, not like we're going to win medals or anything is it? No London 2012 hopes there?

Anyway, thanks for the blog again, helpful as usual.

Why is rugby continually excluded from Freeview red button, even when it was not excluded on the posted internet schedule? We cannot receive via Sky or Freesat due to trees where we live, and do not receive Welsh TV. Why on earth are there no Freeview highlights of the Six Nations on the final weekend, just to show the awards show of a soon to be axed radio station, which is airing Wed-Fri and then again till the next Wednesday anyway.

Surely the BBC can see sense and at least show highlights from 6pm on the Saturday after final score, and ideally on the Sunday too through to 1.35pm - though perhaps the Football League Show should get priority in the morning there.

Ridiculous that was sold as being on really late on Saturdays on BBC1, and then on the red button till noon on Sunday. I think it's been on Freeview less than 50% of the time, and it would make much more sense just to give The Football League Show a scheduled repeat on BBC2 on the Sunday considering it can clearly not be accommodated on Freeview.

#29 - Brekkie I agree, I'm a fan of Doctor Who, but a looped one minute preview for most of the week seems a bit OTT.

#28 - I noticed this too Chris, I enjoy the Classic F1 and only caught it by chance flicking through - it wasn't advertised on the EPG so wasn't expecting to see it.

Also, it would be nice to see a replay of Scrum V for us freeviewers who can't see it live tonight! We've missed quite a few games this season, please put a replay in for Freeview fans!

Now I have nothing against kids, we were all one once after all, but why did CBBC extra get preference to the F1 practice sessions on Friday (today) on DVB-T LCN301, considering that most kids would still have been in school and that kids already have two dedicated channels and an afternoon on BBC1 - totally unacceptable.

BBC, you do realise that you are slowly pushing more and more people out of the starting gate and down hill towards paying the 'Murdoch shilling', and once they start paying him they quickly start questioning the need/value of the TVL, and should a majority of the UK electorate start thinking that way it won't be long before the politicians pick up in it too, when is the next TVL review?...
