Funny papers online
The podcast is ready and waiting for you to take a listen. This week Rhod and I donned our capes and masks to talk about comics online as Marvel celebrates its 70th anniversary.
If we mentioned a place that you would like to visit online, then you can find all the links right here:
The comic publishing house Marvel is 70 years old this week. With a huge back catalogue to be viewed digitally and much to do online, the company is managing to remain fresh by engaging fans through modern means. Executive editor and site blogger Tom Brevoort took a moment to talk about the inky history and the pixellated future.
Sites for fans are a great place to learn more about the genre and discuss the latest episodes of our favourite caped crusaders and super villains. Stephen Schleicher is the executive producer of the website Major Spoilers where fans chat about their collections and more.
If you like your comics to be portable, you might enjoy reading them in digital form on a mobile phone or ipod. David Steinberger of Comixology works out ways to make panels less painful on a small screen.

If you are made for pod casts and comics, you will love War Rocket Ajax podcast. Chris and Eugene who make the show are funny, totally know their comics and get some great artists and writers on board to talk to them so drop by and give them a listen.
You may want to be a grown up to listen as there are some adult themes and of course that goes for some of the comics you may find online. People are certainly creative but make sure you look out for the difference between adult and kids comics.
On a different note but certainly as creative, Brian Singer of 1001 Journals took a moment to talk about the vast array of art and diary intrigue he has uploaded to his site each day.

Trends, manners, books and happiness
This week on the podcast we collect a selection of traits online, somehow managing to be well read, on trend and polite as well as monitoring happiness.
If we mentioned a place that you would like to visit online, then you can find all the links right here:
The latest Gartner hype-cycle report is out. What's hot and what's not in gadgets and technology. BBC Silicon Valley reporter Maggie Shiels deciphers the graphs for us.
Nice manners go a long way online. If you have a dilemma about the do's and don't of social networking it might be worth emailing Dr Mariann Hardey for a little advice about etiquette online.
Read any good books lately? If social media is your thing, then Jurgen Appelo has a top 100 list of books that might appeal. Though he has quite a few to catch up on himself!
How can you measure the happiness of a community online? Peter Dodds and Christopher Danforth of the University of Vermont are monitoring ways to find out more about our mood online via blogs and social networks. Peter explained how One Happy Bird works.

Security, creativity and radio
We're back from Silicon Valley this week with your regular selection from around the web all wrapped up in the podcast.
If we mentioned a place that you would like to visit online, then you can find all the links right here:
Are you any good at choosing a strong pass word for your online accounts? It seems that many of us are letting ourselves down. Lawrence Walsh of Channel Insider talks more about getting it right to avoid having your data compromised.
Blogging and publishing online is a great creative way to express yourself, but what if you are feeling a little restricted by the tools you have to hand? Alex Wood talks to Marcus Gilroy-Ware of Smartest to find out more about open-source publishing.
Another good blend of old media and new, Social Media Hour on Blog Talk Radio is bringing our online lives and issues to the radio waves. I caught up with the host, Cathy Brooks to have coffee, apple pie and a talk about social radio in San Francisco.

Post Card from Silicon Valley - Part two
This week the podcast is the final recording from Silicon Valley, California. This time, we're taking a look at how history and society work along side the new technology that is created in the area.

If we mentioned a place that you would like to visit online, then you can find all the links right here:
Deborah Olson and her father Charlie run C.J. Olson Cherries. Charlie is a fourth generation farmer who remembers the Silicon Valley neighbourhood when it was known as the Valley of Heart's Delight. They share their view of the changes in the area.
Coffee and geeks go together so well that it makes sense for a coffee shop to be a hub for local and tech activity. Nick Chaput is the owner of the Dana Street Roasting Company. He talks about running an independent coffee business in the area and his patrons share a view of their life in the Valley.

That was the final post card from Silicon Valley and hopefully a normal service will return next week. It's been a lot of fun learning more about the area and recording on location. Thanks to everyone who allowed me to intrude upon their coffee time and of course for all of the help and advice from local resident and guide Carolyn Lutticken.
