The Best Unsung Blogs of 2006

Post categories:

Chris Vallance | 15:20 PM, Monday, 4 December 2006

Do you have a favourite blog or podcast that's not very well known but you really like? Inspired by this post from Fimoculous, "The Best Blogs of 2006 that you (maybe) Aren't reading" (via Boingboing) We'd like to invite readers and listeners of Pods and Blogs to suggest their Unsung Blog/Pod of 2006. We'll try and feature interviews with a few of the recommended bloggers and podcasters (and the people who did the recommending) on Five Live in the run-up to Christmas. To get the ball rolling I'm going to point out the blog Or Does It Explode... I often forget to check it, but there's always something thought provoking there. Leave your suggestions in the comments - with a note about why you chose your nominated blog/pod

I'd like to nominate The Podcast of Pointless Singing

    http://pointlesssinging.blogspot.com

A group podcast with a unique angle:

"...original recordings of improvised and spontaneous vocal performances, made for no reason whatsoever. What's the point? The point of course is that these random mumbles, murmurs, croaks and grunts are the root of all composition, as delivered by a million highly-trained professional sopranos, tenors, and baritones - and yet, where can you listen to this kind of ground-level, grassroots, intimate human material? Nowhere. They just don't get recorded, even though Pointless Singing is an important cultural activity and social freedom enjoyed by billions worldwide!

Yet we all make these vocals. Maybe you make them in your car, maybe in your kitchen, maybe in your bathroom, maybe when you just woke up, maybe in the time just before you went to sleep."

A great example of podcasting at it's quirky best.

Secondly I would like to nominate my partner's blog Becky's T*Blog Ok I'm biased but we met because of her blog, she is a funny, clever and inventive, thoughtful writer oh I can I point out one of the best transgendered bloggers in Britain today and I don't think that is all just my bias.

Tory Radio - www.toryradio.com has been a great new podcast in the last year. It brought you the famous mincing metrosexual quote from Francis Maude. Its interview with Lord Tebbit showed announced to the world he backed David Camerons hug a hoodie policy, and Ken Clarke announced to the world that he introduced speed cameras to the UK.

One of the best political podcasts in the UK over the past year, and all of these "scoops" have come about from a podcast independent of the party itself.
