David Axe in Basra
Writer for Military.com and Defensetech.org, David Axe, who has been a guest on Pods and Blogs a number of times, is just back from visiting British troops in Basra. He collected some fascinating interviews with servicemen and women, using an inexpensive (less than £100) mp3 recorder that we sent to him - the kind of thing you could easily get in any high street shop. You can hear David's report into the continuing effort to clean up Basra's police-stations, code-named operation Sinbad on the Five Live archive here, (fast forward about 15minutes). While the audio quality isn't what you'd get with more expensive (and bulky) equipment I think it's a great listen. It highlights the fact that there's now no longer a financial or technical barrier to creating compelling audio, the equipment is within the reach of any aspiring broadcaster/podcaster. Over the coming weeks some podcast co-conspirators and I will be producing a little guide to down and dirty audio recording. We've featured many audio pieces by listeners, bloggers podcasters on Pods and Blogs and we hope the guide will encourage more of you to send us your recordings - though war reporting probably comes under the banner of "don't try this at home."

The report about David Axe is interesting. After hearing Wales lose to Slovakia, my Father In Law was watching the TV News of Castro having cancer. More will come from my blog as soon as I receive information. I want Pods and Blogs and BBC Five Live to be the first to receive information. Cheers Roberto
David Axe is a superb reporter, I have followed him via the above mentioned sites especially www.Defensetech.org (which I cannot recomend highly enough) and has been producing consistently good reports. This feature has been great listning and I look forward to more. Thank you.
I heard about Raul denying Castro having Cancer. I am still taking a look at it.
Agreed, Fredric; Axe's work on DefenseTech is excellent. I hope he does more of these reports, it gives such a different dimension to actually hear what's going on. Best of luck to all concerned, come home safe.
