The Upshares Downshares CD: The letters have begun to arrive.

Some of this morning's first post

Somehow between 17.25 last night when we first revealed details of the Upshares CD, and first thing this morning, listeners eager to snap up our Upshares Downshares CD got themselves to the head of the queue.

The CD contains virtually every piece of the Upshares Downshares music sent in by our listeners and broadcast between May 2009 and January 2010. It also contains some bonus tracks, including an interview with the music's composer Sandy Faris and a number of previously unheard renditions. And each CD has a full track listing for all 89 tracks - a total of an hour and twenty minutes.

It's be on sale only from us, only on CD and only until November the 19th. Each CD costs ten pounds including postage and packing. At least five pounds of this will go to BBC Children in Need. Five pounds is the guaranteed minimum - the more we sell, the greater the proportion of money will go to Children in Need, and of course we'll report back to you on how much money we raise.

HOW DO I GET ONE?

To get a CD send a cheque or postal order for ten pounds to "Upshares Downshares, Room G601, BBC TV Centre, London W12 7RJ". The cheque or postal order should be made out to Children In Need Appeal. And very important this, please don't forget to clearly include your own name and address so we can send you the CD.

Yours for ten pounds

I've sent my order in. 2nd class (don't you know there's a war on?) I hope there are some left by the time it gets there. Laughed at your comment Mr Nutt. How did you know?
And re Eddie's comment about the headache, perhaps the CD should have been sponsored by the makers of paracetomol-type pills?

I think Eddie should have made it clear that any problems on the programme tonight were entirely due to the mess he inherited from The World at One.

Did anyone else hear the odd "double broadcast" at c.18.35 last night? A long plug for Martha's programme today overlapping 'The Write Stuff'? Stuff of nightmares for the BBC techies, I would have thought.

Whoops! Should have said (so as not to be 'off topic') that mine @14 followed up annasee's comment about programme problems. I am also terribly bored with the 'Coalition Governement' (why do reporters keep referring to it like this, as though there are several they might choose from?) blaming the previous Government for an 'inherited financial mess'. How much longer are they going to continue to accuse the previous government for what is an international mess? Would someone (Eddie, Martha?) please pull them up on it at the next available opportunity? Many thanks.

There are two messes, Lady Sue- the international uncertainty caused by the near-collapse of the banks and their rescue by governments etc, and the massive over-spending by the UK government (borrowing £1 out of every £4 they were spending). The last government were not responsible (entirely) for the first, but they were undoubtedly entirely responsible for the second. Gordon Brown tried to make out that the whole thing is all one mess, and caused by the banks - but he would, wouldn't he?

Except apparently none of them were listening! They got through the whole trail without anyone noticing - must have been a minute - I wonder if it's on listen again?

Big Sis, I actually rather enjoyed it. Terribly clever, particularly when they write their own (in this case) detective story in the style of the author - I note Sid enjoyed those too.

Sid, I take your point about the two messes. Just shows I don't pay attention. As soon as I hear the words 'government' or 'politics' I tend to switch off.

Agree that the techies must have been on tea-break - I was also amused that the entire "puff" for Martha's show played till the end. Much longer than a minute, surely?
