Very pretty. Is that your washing line, Fred?

We left London at 10pm last night to travel down to Bishopsteignton in Devon because we didn’t want to be stuck in the South East for days. When they say stay at home please heed their advice; I have never been so terrified on a car journey in my life.
As we travelled down the M4 the snow got heavier as we travelled west. By the time we reached Slough we were down to two lanes, by Newbury one lane. The snow was so heavy we couldn’t see the road markings or surface. We couldn’t see anything it was a white out. We couldn’t come off to swop drivers. Despite all this we were overtaken by two National Express coaches at speed. One tailgaited a Ford Ka in front of us. The spray from the coaches completed blinded us as it hit the windscreen. National Express need to retrain their drivers.
We arrived at home at 430 am and praised our safe arrival but I will never forget National Express - They could have killed someone last night.

Hi Big Sis, it is indeed my washing line :-)
well, I've heard from colleagues that I made the right move by leaving the office at 4pm yesterday. By 530, the one road that leads out of the industrial estate that the office is on was too slippery to drive on. One of my colleagues simply abandoned his car some 500m from the office and walked the mile and a half to a rail station, managed to squeeze onto a local train into Southampton, then walked the 4 miles home from there, getting home some 2 hours late. Given I live a lot further away, if I'd left at my usual time, I'd probably still be stuck somewhere on the A34 even now....

SOunds like you made the nest choice Ffred - one of my colleagues took 4 hours to drive 5 miles home last night, after we dug our cars out of the surgery car park!

It took me two hours to go to our local shop and back (two miles and usually a mere seven minutes drive away). The guys up there were marvellous, digging my car out when it got stuck in their car park, and I'd like to give a BIG thank you to Sainsburys Pulborough (if this isn't deemed advertising) as they really are looking after their customers.
The snow in these parts is as thick as I've ever seen it in Sussex, only four wheeled drive (and a few mad folk like myself) are driving, no trains south of Horsham, and snow still falling as I type this. It isn't as cold as yesterday, so I suspect the snow may start to thaw, but the sky is laden with promise of further falls, so if it doesn't clear by four o'clock, I suspect we are in for several days of disruption.
I'm just glad that, like Fred, I left Southampton in good time yesterday afternoon and made it back home before the chaos began.
Good luck, everyone, and keep warm!
