I am rather troubled about the way the media, yet again, referred to the person who shot all those people at the US base as a muslim. Was that really necessary? This worries me as it implies that muslims are now evil. During the IRA bombings, were they referred to as catholics? Why is it necessary to disclose the religion of muslim people who commit crimes? Why aren't the religions of other people who commit crimes disclosed? BBC Radio 4, I am disappointed that you disclosed his religion and then have the nerve to have a person on PM to disclose concern for the muslim community. If you are going to be concerned, why disclose his religion in the first place?

I was so astonished this morning that I nearly choked on my toast. It was the interview between the boss of RBS and Evan Davis .... It was a calculated example of attack being the best form of defence, and so effective in stifling further critical comment from the interviewer, that It must set a precedent. Comparing the bank's performance with the work of the BBC (and the salary levels of executives in particular) was so illegitimate, that I wonder if there is a collective guilt in the BBC about remuneration. Stop feeling guilty, you may be overstaffed, you may be a bit square and a bit too PC, but you offer the only intelligent voice worth listening to. Next time Evan bite his leg off!

Shell shock widened to include non-artillery trauma, and became combat fatigue, which then became post-traumatic stress disorder (civilians included now) ... and now researchers in the field of child abuse are proposing a new distinct 'developmental trauma disorder' to describe the ongoing trauma suffered by some children.

I mention this because next week is National Adoption Week.

That Senior Judge who thinks to much reliance is put on TV shows like CSI wherever. By us lay people perhaps? I must admit I was laughing at his protestation. Yes - I agree fully - Dna evidence etc is not the magic bullet and NO judgement should be made on that alone but I started mentally counting what other factors could be taken into account. And ticking them off - again mentally as being provable by good old fashioned methods. I stopped at twenty facts and could see many more in the matter I was interested in years ago via BBC's good offices too. Dna? I swear I could here an excuse being prepared. No offence Senior Judge sir. No offence. And no - Law is not a walk in the park but hey!Oh yes - I did that too. Twenty one now! lol

Jonnie, thanks. I was wondering whether I would wind up being a 'little voice in the wilderness' over this one. What I should have said in my comment above was that there was also some very interesting historical information given.

While I could listen to even a 'walrussy' Eddie reading the phone book, listening to the rustling papers and someone, doing their best God love them and not wanting to sound patronising but suspecting it might... with the best will in the world ... chaps, that simply did not work on radio.

Fiona, do we have a green box now too?

Gillianian, we will have to agree to disagree ;-).

If they do a second one, perhaps it might come with a time-length warning if it is going to be "at least as long". I would far prefer to see the text and be able to think about it than hear someone, who is not a trained broadcaster or actor, read out such a long piece. I'm not saying the content was not interesting - it was - but the importance of it (like the weather) got lost in the monotony of the long delivery. IMHO: A few chosen extracts would have had more impact.

Interesting piece. It reminded me of what was said to auto-workers on strike in US, 'We can get robots to do your work now,' to which came the reply, 'But robots don't buy cars.' Can't recall who said it.

One of the "big issues" in a magazine I purchased last week was an article on how allegedly easy it is for false stories to be published as the "truth" in media outlets. A few key words, like certain surnames and suggestion of scandal involving same are all that is needed seemingly. And the genesis of the "false" story is followed until it becomes as true as anything found on that Wiki whatisface site. lol
Not one column inch, PM. Not a one! I keep looking for flaws in something but I still feel it had everything - children, film stars, MoPs. pathos bathos D'Artagnan and Aramis but nowt!. Not one column inch.
So actual stories involving some if not all the same factors - that deserve my full hearted sympathy get nothing but diresion I am afraid. Selfish I know but I repeat - false stories get published too and how do I now separate those deserving attention? Just the Facts, ma'am from the X-Facts? No offence anyone

I'm not sure where Lord B-G is at the moment. Possibly lost in the re-registration/'upgrade' fiasco, possibly just bored.

Glad you found the article of interest, especially considering it comes from the Wall Street Journal stable, not a well-known pit of lefties....

I am becoming a big fan of Evan Davis - the two interviews Saturday, with the disabled guy and Bob Geldorf, really sum up Evan's sensitivity and intelligence - he is willing to go off piste and that is commendable.

In highlighting the man who was trapped within his own shell, Evan has raised a really important issue in relation to the development of consciousness in general. It is a case that the exception often proves the rule. While the majority spurn the value of raising consciousness in favour of following the pack and are bound by natural instincts of conformity - imagine a world where every person nurtured individual consciousness, as the disabled man has!
