Poster Number 5 - brilliant aerodynamics too? One of these or a near relative tried to kiss me this morning. Straight for my cherry reds it went - I saw it off with a stinging rebuke. They are planning to use things this size for spying in future are they not? Stateside? Typical - taking bee-stung lips to the eenth degree! Luckily the wife wasn't around. She - missus - had buzzed off somewhere. A motor car yesterday and a bee today? hmm. Luckily I do not watch "Spooks" but maybe it was time Mr (Sun Set Boulevard - allegedly) de Mille I was ready for my PM close-up whilst I still can. The sky may actually fall in on Chicken Little and it might NOT be just an antique acorn! My quizperson of choice........ Hmm. lol
Isn't it funny how you can look at something for ages, and you just can't see what it is? I've just worked out that the bee is FLYING AWAY from the camera! Anyway, I bet it's a 'she' not a 'he'. Must go to specsavers...
Thanks for all comments. Yes, it is a female - males don't get involved in house-building projects like this ... they're only good for one thing. Interestingly*, when next year's bees emerge from the long tunnel their mother has constructed, those nearest the front will be males, so they get out first.
Re the photo: the way to get a photo like this is to take hundreds of shots - thank goodness for digital!
If you need to know these leaves are clematis (though I believe rose leaves are preferred).

Sid, When we were beekepers (not the same kind), somebody asked us how we got them to get back in the hive at night.
