Earlier this evening I heard on the BBC Radio 4 News that Prime Minister Putin has issued a warning to EUROPE about possible interruptions to gas supply in the coming winter, due to the difficulties with Ukraine's alleged non-payment. Many European countries may be affected again. In any case, interesting timing..."

John Hemming MP is the person to talk to about gas supplies - he's done the research and knows where we stand.

I suspect the reason this AM GB hasn't attracted quite the number of posters it usually does is rather due to the 'identity crisis' that's going on.

Sounds to me as if the government doesn't like thecannabis culture.

Although Alan Johnson has always LOOKED to me to be in deep sympathy with it.

In the old days a lot of work on social justice went into pot smoking. Guilty middle class younsters (guilty for their putative wealth income and (no) work trajectories) used to acknowledge their sins on the stuff and retire to an ashram or squat or even get proper jobs.

On alcohol and tobacco you can wind up as a bankster or a landed gent or invade Afghanistan, no probs.

So it's the drug good rather than harm under attack here.

Sequin - I know this is a bit late, but since no-one seems to have guessed or identified the mystery "bonus tune" on our "Upshares Downshares" rendition last week, you might challenge listeners to identify it. It's relevant, promise!

Ah well, Lady Sue, you know this is "Your" BBC - no prizes allowed, (conveniently) so sadly I've been forbidden from offering that two-week holiday (somewhere warm, all-expenses paid), to listeners. Such a shame. Had to give it to the presenter as a bribe last week instead... ;-)

    Yeah, the same probs.

Thought I'd get in a few posts whilst my usual host of critics were tied up moaning.

'Mmm. Something on social class, perhaps' I thought.

I sometimes wonder if the lower incidence of drug problems as apposed to alcohol reported this morning is more a result of the fact that drugs are illegal and socially frowned upon. Whilst alcohol is undoubtedly a problem where consumption is excessive, I believe that it is more likely that cannabis, ecstasy and the like provide an easier path to harder drugs which are a serious problem. For this reason we should not downgrade the softer drugs. Should we consider excessive alcohol consumption in the same way as we consider driving at excessive speed

so plastic carrier bags are wicked--I don't think so!
We're constantly told to keep cooked & raw meat & poultry separate, to use separate utensils etc to avoid cross contamination with disease causing micro organisms. But suddenly it's OK to dump everything together in a reuseable bag,

I'm old enough to remember shopping before plastic carriers, when we did take shopping bags to the supermarket, but in those days checkout operators overwrapped meat & poultry as they scanned them. Not anymore!

I hope it doesn't take seriou illness to cause the Welsh authorities to rethink.
