Electoral reform.
Come on Gordon the most important reform the English want is our own Parliament. With the same powers as your wee parliament in Scotland.

I think anyone who advocates radio rather than TV for debate has to be a Gordon Brown fan. Radio might not give us the full flavour of the man!!Nixon by the way is often compared to Brown in his obssessive, intense self pitying nature.No, I'm afraid we need to see them.

Hugh Sykes, Iraq and Labour's Week in Brighton
Thanks for the piece on Iraq. There is nothing for Britain to be proud of in that country and we need to be reminded of this because we all own, to varying degrees, the responsibility of what happened there. It is important we do not forget the price of this type of politics.
Hugh Sykes' report gave us another reminder of the Iraq we left behind, while at the same time showing us the strength of ordinary people even when their lives have seemingly been shattered.
I wonder if it's possible that despite the fact that for most of the media, the Iraq War and the devastation it visited on the country and its people is a rarely alluded to distant memory (honourable exceptions such as Hugh Sykes' piece noted), it is still an important factor in the way voters perceive the Government. It's incredible to me that as far as I am aware not a single mention of this hugely key political event was made during the Labour Party conference, not just by the delegates and MP's - which is not surprising perhaps - but also by the hordes of journalists populating Brighton this week.
Can it really be true that such things as the Iraq War simply cease to exist in the public consciousness this quickly? I'm sure it isn't and to believe it is is just wishful thinking. Just because the the Labour Party and Government choose not to speak about it and the media, including the BBC, dutifully ignore the subject most of the time now, particularly in its association with the Government, does not mean it is not still a gaping sore on the conscience and memory of voters.

Don't you just love the way that, because David Cameron has purposefully avoided Brown's triangulation, that Brown now has to make up things that David might say so he can denounce them.
Still, who cares, there is more chance of Andrew Marr being PM by this time next year.

Not too much Labour Conference, despite it being G day there - and I thought it had a great mix of other topics both here and abroad, acknowledging that life does continue outside of Brighton this week.

Re comment 1, the Scottish Parliament actually has less power than Westminster. Seems perfectly reasonable to have an English Parliament - provided Scotland is given control of all the matters which are currently reserved for Westminster.

The English want and need a parliament with the same powers as the Scottish, one not more powers. Then the Westminster parliament would be smaller and be in charge of the wider stuff like foreign matters and tax.
