It's disgusting. It makes me feel ashamed to be british. This rapist gets his way because it's his 'Human Right'! What about the human rights of the poor woman he raped? What about the human rights of the people he attacked? He showed no respect for their rights, so why should he be allowed to get his rights?
I feel that it's about time legislation was brought in that removed the human rights from any prisoner found guilty of violating the human rights of others. We are after all, a civilised society, so lets have some civilised laws. It might even cut down on the prison population once they realise they get no rights once inside. Who knows?

Earlier in PM I chortled heartily at hearing how Nigel Farage could only do so much. Yup – I thought – smoking cigars takes it out of you I suppose. Allegedly doing nowt constructive in the European Parliament must exhaust one all right. May as well come and do the same in Great Britain were he elected.

But whilst I smiled - I suddenly thought though Edward. I am still here!

I do think that about every six months or so and marvel that I aint departed.

I have had half-hearted offers to outhouse me in countries that produce Finance Ministers with first names Anders – who can converse sensibly in several languages – whereas out own politicians – allegedly - cannot in plain English. And taking advice from a tabloid - on anything? Stop – my sides hurt.

But the leaving would be a single – one way ticket – which is a tad unfair.

I am still here and I am not in despair as some posters above are for the whole of our country.

It is the – no offence – ordinary folk of this country that still give me hope, I suppose.

I regret I mistrust the cogs and wheels of those who rule us or those who wish to rule us.

Wasn't that where I came in? lol

I'm sorry that today's story about the transsexual prisoner seemed to miss the mark so badly after such a good piece of journalism yesterday covering Schizophrenia. I appreciate that there is a fine line between what makes a story work or not, but in this case I felt that the coverage did little to explore the underlying issues in more depth. Ultimately the question could have been framed in the context of whether or not it is correct for a woman to be detained in a male prison for any reason whatsoever. Many people will fail to understand that a transsexual person innately feels - and is legally recognised - as being of the sex determined on their gender recognition certificate. Put another way, would it ever be right to lock a woman up in a male prison because of the crimes she has committed?

This is obviously a complex and very emotive case because of the nature of the crimes involved, and because for most of us there is an incongruence between the crimes committed and the gender of the person in question. But in my opinion it is those things that muddy the waters make it too easy for people to overlook the issue that is at stake - which is not about a 'benefit' or luxury choice nor about the gender of the prisoner which has already been determined - but about a basic human right to be detained with dignity.
