Hello. Early, isn't it?
Over on iPM this morning, we talked about going to Uni, the weather, and Simon Cowell.
I realise that doesn't sound like much but if you can be bother you could do worse than clicking here to read more. Not much worse, I'll grant you.
As it's the weekend I am throwing in a photo of a teddy wearing a santa outfit. Or is it more Halowe'en-ey? It's almost October, you know.

Yeah, thanks a bunch, Eric. This is the first Xmassy stuff of 2009. I'd hoped to escape for a fortnight or so.

Down at the labour Perty Conference, very enjoyable,the buzz, the immediacy, the political struggles. like watching the death-throes of a vast dynosaur, the head has already got the (very)bad news but the limbs are still manfully going through the motions.There is a real feeling of doom among the gathered faithful. Mandelson put in several brief sepulcheral appearances,as if he knows he would be wise has to not venture too far into the daylight.
Tried to get James Naughtie and John Suchet and Krishnan Guru-Murthy to read my poem about disabled social workers, but only channel 4 was polite enough to take it away.(I recognise that this sounds as if it was penned by Adrian Mole...but poets have to do something!)
Jack Straw looks very tired. The background murmur from this Labour conference (I have lobbied at three)is of frustrated supporters who want charismatic leadership and memorable messages, rather than hand-wringing and wrangling from the political assassins.
I hung about the entrance watching the comings and goings, the poor sweating t.v. crews struggling with all their paraphernalia,the union members, the party apparatchiks, the occasional minister floating past with his retinue. Prescott scuttled past and didn't even try to hit me when I gave him a poem.
I don't think the Labour party believes it should win the next election, and so it won't.

Good post which brings me to suggest PM does a story about the dilemma I and presumably many 'lefties' /ex labourites have... that is how to use our vote given our first past the post voting system. It is really bothering me as I may just end up not bothering to vote at all. I want to vote Lib Dem or Green (not sure) but the way it works uniquely in UK this brings the Tories in by default - always has been when the vote gets split. I am soooo p***sed off with Labour. When I voted for them in 97 I thought we would get a Scandinavian style democracy - not this American way leaning 'thing' full of unelected cabinet LORDS AND LADIES - plus THE WARS, AND AN 'UNelected' PM AND ultimately the bankers still in control and allowed to do what they like with real control over our 'poorest in europe' lives. Is there a voting strategy genius out there to advise the likes of me?
SECOND STORY IDEA Roman Polanski.. please please find out the story BEHIND this story? Why suddenly does America want him. Is it such a crime? did he rape her? I thought in some states of America that 13 year olds could at that time marry. Where is the 13 year old girl now? Let's hear from her please???????? There is something quite disproportional going on here I do get fed up with BBC 'half the story' way of doing news.. thanks.... Ms Pithy
PS (LISTENING TO tODAY) - first the military in Afghan etc "there to stop the drugs trade" ha ha ha some hopes while it is criminal and as so, a trade worth trillions ... and now The Royal Navy story and even Prince William trying to convince us of their usefulness (poppy found in fishing boat story)
pps Library books story.... can you get that super bug tv woman sent in to see how many bugs/swine flue there is lurking between the book shelves and pages there? When I was a kid I remember a guy going around fumigating books every afternoon in our local library - which incidentally was where my friend and i 'lived'. I don't see that going on today and some of the books look a bit manky to me!

pithywriter - some good ideas there ...
A friend of mine collects books and takes them to hospitals, and then passes them from ward to ward, effectively negating (I would have thought) the hand-washing etc designed as a barrier to super-bugs and so on.
I feel very much the same about Labour ... even though I was a signed up Lib Dem, there was nonetheless a widespread feeling of hope, with the sleazy Tories gone. But they never quite seemed to believe that they were in charge, and they dissipated the mountain of goodwill they had in no time at all. If you're tempted to vote Green, you should look at their policies very carefully - they're not as friendly as you might think (but no one's really looked yet).
Polanski - I don't think it is sudden - there's been a warrant out since 1978, which is why Polanski has lived in Europe since then. Why Switzerland have acted when others haven't is an interesting question ...
