The PM Glass Box.
The Glass Box is where the PM team meets in at 18.00 every weeknight to discuss the content of the programme. If you want to let it all out in this virtual glass box, be my guest. Tonight's editor Amanda "orangutan" Lewis will read your comments and may well add her own.

Why are Americans being caught on the borders of 'Axis of Evil' countries? They're either stupid or spies.

Isn't it time to stop trusting 'the experts'? Flooding bankers with money does not result in renewed lending, just in richer bankers. The long, hot summer we were promised is still to come, but will not now be so long and the mortality from swine'flu seems to have disappeared now the diagnosis is no longer applied to everyone ill with a fever. Time to take a look at 'Global Warming'GW). Want to get your paper published then GW should be your theme. Want to join the throng in Bali, or Copenhagen or both in air-conditioned lecture halls reached by air and eating food flown in from afar. Time to ditch all that health advice and eat what you like? How about a full and frank discussion?

What we haven't been told is what the North Korea asked for in return for these journos? Perhaps the fact that Clinton was met at the airport by the guy in charge of nuclear development might be a clue?

Is it possible not to pee with all that running water? Of course showering rather than bathing saves a great deal of water to start with, and not flushing every time is pretty obvious. A water meter helps to focus the mind.
We are re-using water that's been through countless humans and other species over aeons, so no need to be coy about it. What goes around, comes around, as they say.

Who will play Clinton in the movie? Steve Martin?
Laura Ling & Euna Lee has a ring about it, reminds me of the Dylan number, Frankie Lee and Judas Priest, perhaps the soundtrack...

I heard the report on a loan shark that charged people extortionate interest charges, threatening behaviour and illegal lending. What bank was it?...was he allowed to keep his bonus?

30 years for being the back-up get away driver in the theft of £2.6 million from the Bank of England.
5 years for stealing, extorting, blackmailing £3 million from from poor people.
Discuss.
Complain about this comment
The real crime involved in the loan shark is the fact that those who borrowed from him did so because they couldn't get credit anywhere else. There is a whole disappeared subculture of millions of poor people succesive governments, political parties, and the banks (all the same entity)refuse to acknowledge exsist...fertile ground for the underground sharks...that the overground bank sharks should be ashamed of.

I don't suppose we will be, but I'm sure they'll be getting more than PR out of it. Obama spokesman said the visit was entirely a 'private' iniatitive by Bill Clinton. But Al Gore, in his speech, thanked the Obama Administration for their efforts over the last few weeks in bringing this about. I thought the guy Clinton met was the 'nuclear negotiator' not the head of nuclear development. He's probably just the 'negotiator' for all US matters - a bit of media enhancement there. Wait a couple of weeks and it'll be slipped out that US has lifted some sanctions on North Korea; concessions don't go down well with US public. John Bolton is already jumping up and down with anger over Clinton's visit. He prefers constant conflict.

Yes - I agree. HMG has never forgiven Biggs for escaping. I mentioned the double-standards a few weeks ago. Most people missed the point, supporting continued imprisonment, instead of relating the sentence to present day standards.

Had Mr biggs escaped prior to capture and imprisonment and been found and captured today, he would be tried and, if found guilty, imprisoned with a sentence applicable at the time he committed the crime.

I should have added that if a sentence of death would have been applicable to a proven past crime, that sentence would today be commuted to a "life" sentence.

Loan Sharks - I used to work for the CAB and interest rates for credit of over 100% were common and legal. I also used to see the bad side of things too when lenders would go knocking on the doors of people round the council housing estates offering quick loans to the vulnerable and then threatening them when they could not pay, especially at Christmas time when single mothers needed the cash for presents because absent fathers never bothered with their children. People would be desperate and do anything to give them their money. It's very difficult for people living hand to mouth when they can't get credit from regulated lenders. Then again, some of them stretch the rules to breaking point and make millions. So would you if your business borrowed money at 4% and charged interest rates of over 70%. Compare that rate to Barclaycard.

Hello, Wednesday's Editor here, thanks for your comments on this and the other threads for the show.
We were pleased with the actuality we were able to get of the return of the two American journalists from North Korea. The women seemed to step off the plane and straight into a news conference. We're grateful to the Children's Laureate - Anthony Browne for driving across a large chunk of Kent in order to reach a studio to take part in the programme - I hope you were interested in his campaign to encourage children to draw.
Following the loan shark story, on future programmes we'll be looking to see how easy it is for people without much income to obtain loans for household necessities like cookers or children's clothing and we'll be checking up on listeners' experiences of dealing with debt difficulties, finding out just how helpful the banks and building societies actually are.
And despite my qualms, the Brazillian ecologists' campaign to save water by putting a shower to dual use, doesn't seem to have caused offence. Phew!

I remember Harriet Harman from the National Union of Students conferences in the early 1980s. I admire her now because she has stuck to her principles, which is rare for a politician these days. As a teenage lad at the time, I found her both attractive & scarey. She was an ardent femenist back then and seemed antagonistic towards any man.
