According to Wikipedia: He is best known for the BBC television programme Tonight, which he presented from 1957 to 1965.

He also hosted the BBC's television coverage of the Apollo moon landings, the 1966 and 1970 UK general elections and the Investiture of Price Charles as Prince of Wales in 1969. Many 1966 television viewers remember his reporting of the Aberfan disaster. He was awarded the CBE in 1969.

So you need to be at least 50 to remember him...
And I thought Radio 4 was trying to attract a younger audience...

DIY (5): Definitely not! For the benefit of non-regulars, I'm in my early 30s - and have been a regular listener since my late 20s. Before then, I mainly listened to BBC local radio, albeit with a several years of heresy when I listened to "the other side" (100.1 MHz) - but the combination of ever more irritating adverts (often completely at odds with the programmes surrounding them) and ever more programming devoted to "Smooth" or "Relaxing" playlists, coupled with a desire to get a better "news fix" lead me to 4 - to such an extent that when I visit elsewhere, radios mysteriously start getting retuned...

Now Eddie, can you use your influence to get another one of those pictured back on TV or radio?

James Burke is still IMO the best science presenter ever. His "Connections" TV programme fascinated me when I was a lad. We're sorely lacking a presenter who can make science sound simple and interesting these days.

Second photo contains James Burke. At one time, the 'coolest' scientist on the planet (according to BBC viewing figures). Must have been one of the first serious presenters to wear an open necked shirt on the box with sporting side-burns. He would have been every school kids dream of a great teacher me thinks.

Of course, the original Tonight was so much better, with the likes of Alan Whicker and Fyffe Robertson enlivening proceedings. I also remember Robin Hall and Jimmy McGregory - Didn't they make a record of Football Crazy?

I have a vivid memory of my brother doing a Fyffe Robertson impression..."I suppose yourrr wonderrring whhhat I'm doing here in....
