Shaquille Smith was one of the youngest victims of knife-crime last year.

He was stabbed to death outside his house in Hackney, in London, aged 14.

Today, his killers were given life sentences at the Old Bailey.

Shaquille was the cousin of a young actor, Daniel Banton (second photo) with the music and dance theatre company, Chickenshed, and the nephew of its director of education, Paul Morrall.

After his murder, the company turned its attention to the subject of youth violence and "Crime of the Century" opens tonight at Chickenshed in Southgate, London and transfers to the Edinburgh Fringe Festival on August 7th.

Hear Yvonne Murray's report on the programme tonight.

So, Shaquille was the cousin and nephew of somebody else. So am I. I'll bet he was named after the basketball player Shaquille O'Neal as well, which has nothing to do with it either. Allegedly, he wanted the girl involved to have his children.

David - far from having ''nothing to do with it'', Shaquille's relationships explain perfectly clearly why Chickenshed had a special reason for putting together their latest project.
    I wish them every success.

David, I think you've conflated two stories together here. The murder of Shaquille Smith did not involve a "girlfriend" enticing him to somewhere to be killed. That was the murder of Shakilus Townsend. It's understandable, as the killers of Shaquille were sentenced yesterday, and the killers of Shakilus were found guilty on Wednesday.

Gillianian, I definitely agree with you and hope that the project is seen by many.

David (4) I wasn't having a go at you, honest! It's a very easy mistake to make, given the fact that the two stories were 24 hours apart in the news, and the similarity in the victims' names. I just felt it should be clarified, especially as the girl who was involved in the case of Shaquille Smith was a victim of the same thugs, who slashed her face with a knife.

FF 5, My excuse is that I was in France for the last two weeks. Nothing reported there but Michael Jackson.
