On The World This Weekend
yesterday, there was a report from Hugh in Tehran, about the Iranian presidential election. It included some of the sounds of Friday prayers at Teheran University. Here's what Hugh saw from the media podium:
The preacher was Ayatollah Jannati, head of the 'Guardian Council', who vet political candidates, amongst other things. More from Hugh on PM later this week. The Iranian presidential election is on Friday.

Was that meant to be a comma, and further text to follow, or was it meant to be a full stop, indicating no further text to follow?

At least the boys appeared to be interested in what the preacher was saying...
And it just goes to show that even if you're in a large crowd, you can't hide from an eagle-eyed cameraman (as routinely evidenced on a certain TV religious programme - if there's someone not singing, or picking their nose, or generally looking bored, you can bet one of the cameras will find them... usually far more entertaining than the [typically dirge-paced] singing...)

(4) I do not think he is interested in the preacher as they are in the middle of prayers - more like, he is fascinated by the press podium. He's got a little bag full of stuff to keep him happy - snacks and things I guess. It's tragic we allowed politicians to debar us for so long from that lovely country.
