Eddie Mair | 14:31 UK time, Tuesday, 19 May 2009

speaker2.jpgIn PM tonight we'll make space for the views of our listeners on this historic day.

"Since I came to this House thirty years ago I have always felt that the House is at its best when it is united. In order that unity can be maintained, I have decided that I will relinquish the office of Speaker on Sunday 21st June. This will allow the House to proceed to elect a new Speaker on Monday 22nd June. That is all I have to say on this matter. Order."

What do you think, not just of his departure, but what should happen next...to our MPs...to the rules on expenses etc.
