The Easter Beach.
Everyone should have a Beach to go to, chill out, meet their friends and relax.
In other words it's the off-topic area of the Blog, renewed every week on a Friday, to keep it to a manageable length. Bad attitudes not welcome. No bridges for Trolls to hide under. Just warm sun, sand and virtual sangria. Plus the odd (make that very odd) camel wandering around.

Happy Easter everyone.
In RL I'm in happy mood because it's the first band practice in one-and-a-half years this afternoon. If all goes well, Lying Scotsman should be back in business and all sorts of musical fun back on the menu - though not in time for the 21st I'm afraid.
However it's looking dry-but-dull outside, so I think in the short term a bit more Spring pruning is on the cards. And moving the fat-ball away from the tit-box, so the clever jackdaws who've learned how to cling on and peck won't get the fledglings in a couple of months' time.
Complain about this comment
A life on the Ocean waves. Good Friday.
Nice menu above but - not hunger.
In a bad mood - I am looking gloomily out to sea.
I want to be out there somewhere. Not slumped in this deck chair wondering if I can be bovvered to move for my sunglasses.
That problem with modern day pirates isn't funny at all and I wish that kidnapped ship captain the best.
But it happens on an open sea and no doubt about what goes on - once it has happened - who is on whose side.
The recent Pirates film series - Jack Sparrer etc - why those cutthroat dogs all had a sort of Code. Very unethical but unless the Black Spot was issued -hey......
You knew where you were with them. Oh, except the Keira Knightley character. Who I was told swerved in her allegiance as to main squeeze. Bloom, Depp, Davenport.
The Beach was a Di Caprio film but I prefer the open sea myself.

Evening all. Finally made it out of the office and now it's officially holiday! Whoo!
Lady Sue I am recently moved here (only 6 months) so am still getting to know the place myself. As I mentioned earlier I'm hoping for a camping trip this weekend which should be interesting. But in general my days are spent between an office that could be anywhere (aside from the occasional monkeys at the window) and the beach which i'd agree is pretty idyllic. I sent a pic to Eddie once with the hefalumps on said beach but he didn't seem to approve.
Anyway on to tonight's plans, which involve lots of medicinal brandy. Who's cooking?

Update on Monty: Yesterday, while we were out, he decided to impersonate Houdini, breaking through our living room window and engaging in life threatening activities on the nearby main road. Thankfully, neither he nor anyone else was injured due to this escapade (well, beyond a cut on his nose from the glass), but you can imagine the scene that awaited us when, half a hour later, we returned ....
Our lovely neighbours, collie lovers too, had managed eventually to corral him with the help of their own dog.

Hello all and Happy Easter. I'm back - missed you all. Good to see the Beach is thriving still. Do we have an evening beach market? If not, time for some entrepreneur to start one, surely.
My toothpaste got confiscated in N Z before I flew to Oz last week. Still trying to work out why. The conversation went something like this (I had my toothpaste in clear plastic bag, as requested, at security x-ray)
(Security man): "That toothpaste's too big."
Me (annoyed at having forgotten to put it in suitcase and also forgotten to check size of the tube) "B*gg*r"
S Man "Sorry. You can't take that."
Me "But it's half-used.Look!" (Demonstrating well-squeezed appearance of said tube)
S Man "Doesn't matter. It's the size of the container that counts." (Searching tube, then, triumphantly) "See that? 145 g. The rule is 100 g maximum. Can't have it"
He removes it from bag with confident air of one who has done his job well.
I'm left wondering at the security threat posed by my half-used tube of toothpaste. I'm not bitter, oh no. Just puzzled.

...waitng for mum who is looking totally frazzled, pushing two bikes up hill, hers and her equally distressed looking daughter, both looking as if they have passed through a hail storm of mud.
Cut glass voice cuts the heavy atmosphere, in fully switched on 'Or it will be worse for you' mode.
'Nigel, is it the plan that we DO stop at the very NEXT car park and that one of us should go back and get the car whilst the others shelter?'
Raucous laughter from hoodies on wide tyred bikes without mudguards, each sporting a mud Vesuvious up the back of their jerkins. And wallowing like circus hippos.
Ah, the English wet Sunday holiday week afternoon.
Schadenfreude the only relief from the misery.

On a quiet country road in Norfolk, suddenly a pigeon walks out into the road. Very slowly. It more than takes it's time to cross in front of the car which has screeched to a stop for it. The bird is leisurely, country style, a pigeon's version of grand, almost.
'Don't you know how dangerous that is?'
'Well, yes, but the pheasants told me that's the way to get really impressive tail feathers. You get them awarded to you after three successful traverses.
And the crows say that it's true'.

Let's here it for the pigeons.
My goodness, in summer in the cities they are fat, dusty and dirty.
They seem to have caught traffic-jam attitude from us.
'There's too many of us, in too confined a space. Life is nasty, dirty and short and left over bits of sandwhich are worth fighting over'
But in the winter they leave Leicester Town Hall Square to the renovators and retreat to the woods and fields.
By this Easter weekend they were lean, flying like swallows, crusing on the air currents like sea gulls and cooing in delight like....
And their sense of rhythm. That marvellous call
'Da-da, Da-da, Da-da, Da-da
Da-da, Da-da, Da-'
And you're left there high and dry waiting for the last crochet which the musically anthropomorphic demand.

Next Tuesday at 8.00.
I will have to pop in and out as I think I have to put the kids to bed that night. What with the Mrs Stewart M being out at a meeting.
Could be "interesting"

Tuesday at 8pm it is. I shall relinquish the joys of watching our local city council cabinet perform on-line in order to be here/there.
BTW where exactly is here? on the beach or elsewhere?

Fish pie for tea anyone? I've made a huge vat and now half my guests aren't coming!

GM - oh no! Well that's meals for the rest of the week sorted then.
Next tuesday at 8 I'm supposed to be teaching. What a shame. I don't know how long you'll be chatting for - I'll have to see if I can pop in promptly at 8 for kickoff and hope my pupil is late!

GM(128) I think we'll have to wait for Eddie to let us know exactly what's going to happen.... Possibly it'll be an IM-based platform that'll be used. Who can say?

Let me offer you a big glass of something you fancy at the NC Bar to compensate.

morning all. the search and rescue can be called off. camping was in general a success. tents were erected and duly abandoned in the middle of the night as a pair of eyes we spotted crawling up the beach. point to note cars are not comfortable to bed down in. and are extremely hot when three are sharing.
anyhoo. i have some beach snaps to send to eddie (though no elephants) which i shall do once i get a moment to myself (but maybe not until tomorrow when i have a surprise bank holiday!).
fresh coffee on the bar along with breads, jams, cheeses etc

Morning all, just come down to raise a cup of Tea to Clement Freud, he'll be sadly missed.
FF - what's an IM based platform? IM means intramuscular to me.....!
Complain about this comment
I'll drink along with you, GM, though I think a glass of the finest champagne might be more appropriate.
To Sir Clement!

DMcN (131) and GM(138) IM is an abbreviation for Instant Messaging. I was just suggesting that the more "live" chat that Eddie's proposing may be on a different platform to the standard blog, as it'd be a little unwieldy here. Another thought might be a more "chatroom" based option, where the chat is more live. I've seen a few instances where this has been done in large companies with a number of offices where they need to hold a conference/training session, and they can work quite smoothly...
I'll raise my coffee mug to Sir Clement too. A erudite gentleman has been lost.

Just a minute, did Clement Freud die? Don't forget, he was also a Liberal MP.

In memory of Sir Clement I shall attempt to post without hestitation, repetition or deviation...
And so, I lift my mug to salute the memory of this highly original man, an individual whose intellect, sharp wit, turn of phrase, gentle manner, unique voice, beard, all these characteristics will be much missed, especially by those fond of long lists spoken in futile attempts to avoid the dreaded sound of a buzzer interrupting the stream of words, one raises the formerly described drinking recepticle to a more elevated position than that previously demonstrated, to share in the salutations of a sadly departed polymath, drinking to the memory of said person, Sir Clement Freud...

Septic 150, Repetition of buuuzzzzzzzzz.
Complain about this comment
David McNickle, under the rules of Just a Minute the repetition only applies to words that individual has spoken, not those spoken by others. As Septic hadn't spoken in the round before it can't be a repetition. None the less we enjoyed your challenge David, and so give you a point, Septic you gain an extra point for an incorrect challenge and now have 25 seconds on "Sir David Freud", tell us something about that subject starting now...

Sir Clement was not related in anyway to the young upstart Internet Fraud. The name is in fact a nom de plumme adopted by a soft drink which was itself of mixed parentage. The result of mixing orange juice and the liquid squeezed out of a lemon. Sir Clement was eagerly gulped down by many a pretty young lass in the delightful fenland city of Ely.

FF 164, It was all proper grammar. But an improper word.
Complain about this comment
I disagree, DMcN. The word you used was deviate. That is a perfectly acceptable verb. To quote from Chambers 21st Century Dictionary:
"deviateverb (deviated, deviating) intrans to turn aside or move away from what is considered a correct or normal course, standard of behaviour, way of thinking, etc.
It would be like me calling someone a push. It's grammatically incorrect.
Complain about this comment
FF 167, But I meant it as a noun. Like a perv. (see if that's allowed)
Complain about this comment
Ah, but the noun form is deviant (or devienace when describing an activity. To be frank, the act of labelling someone with that tag will run you afoul of the "potentially libellous" section of the house rules. to whit: Are racist, sexist, homophobic, sexually explicit, abusive or otherwise objectionable
