The New Year's Eve Glass Box.

glasse.jpg

Above is the Glass Box the PM team meets in at 18.00 every weeknight to discuss the content of the programme.

We try to be honest with each other, but not hurtful, as we talk about what worked and what didn't...what met our expectations and what fell short.

This virtual glass box is where you're encouraged to take part in the same spirit. The editor of the day reads your comments and may well add her/his own.

This evening's "piece" on the Israel/Palestinian/Hamas situation - came over very well.

People were asked questions they "could" answer and therefore did and were importantly, given time to answer.

An interesting question I haven't heard asked of the "Israeli's" - maybe I've missed it - relates to the timing of the present conflict.

A few weeks ago, we heard speculation of an Israeli "trial air-strike" on supposed Iranian nuclear sites. There was much media speculation on whether or not the out-going US administration had the stomach for an Iranian conflict.

This latest Israeli/Palestinian/Hamas conflict, coming as it does a few days before a Presidential and Political change in the US may be co-incidental.

Purely speculation of course, but I can't help wondering does it perhaps indicate "posturing" by Israel to "obtain" something from the new administration OR does today's conflict perhaps indicate a soon to come widening "influence" attempt by the US and strikes against Iran...

Cuba: I do wish 'Your Man' would mention something I found so absolutely wonderful about Cuba...

I've never been anywhere else where everyone from every Ethnic group just mixed with everyone else. Black, white, Latino, Asian... all together. No segregation, imposed or otherwise - everyone just friendly and getting on with each other.

    How refreshing.

(without wishing to sound like 'Miss World' Wannabee) That would be my wish for everyone for the New Year.

Yet again I find myself why disabled people who have overcome their difficulties and made a long standing professional contribution to society are absent from the Honours List which seems to concentrate on sport or contributions To disabled people. If the government wants more disabled people in work, perhaps some acknowledgement of those of us who have worked despite the difficulties would boost our visibility and give us some sense of being appreciated!

Happy New Year to everyone involved in the BBC PM project including everyone who posts comments on this system....but can I just add that I do find a critque of Cuba slighty pathetic considering the whole capitalist system is on the edge of collapse without State aid and not forgetting that the USA has had an economic embargo on this small Island for over 40 years....because the Western Ruling Elite are terrified the majority should have any form of social justice and say in running society...in the UK according to the incredible Mark Curtis it started about the time of the French Revolution (Karl Marx born in 1818)....and lets face it - this country like the USA and China are virtually 'One Party States'...after Blair....et al..

Happy New Year to all at PM and fellow bloggers.

In what sense is the whole capitalist system on the edge of collapse. Is that the case every time there is a recession?

Is it a coincidence that democracy, freedom of expression and capitalism (albeit imperfectly) are found together?

I find it frustrating that the credit crunch is held up as evidence of the failure of capitalism (and, by extension, that communism was right all along). Perhaps the Kings Cross fire or Potters Bar rail crash were evidence of the failure of the prinicples of mass rail transport...

    (9) - Philtblog - Recession is just a mood swing by a free mass population. What is wrong here is that the system was corrupted. Any system will fail when its basis loses its integrity.

One thing that the UK is good at is comparing a known existing, warts and all system, with a perfect imagined alternative and concluding it is time for change.

Otherwise we would never vote at all.

Happy New Year to the PM team and all those that sail along with her. Let next year be a step forward in evolution.

    Hello All...

And a very Happy New Year to you all. Thank you for posting.

Relatively straightforward day and I think our interviews on the situation in Gaza were thoughtful and provided some genuine insight.

The highlihght for me was the interview with the 14-year-old Paralympian MBE. She was, as mentioned here, very engaging.

I hope you all have a happy, fun and lucky 2009.

    All the best
