All from Julie Taylor: "These pictures were taken in Grassington, North Yorkshire." Thanks Julie.

1255 UPDATE: and there's more:

"Hi Eddie - here's pics as promised - weather still pretty bad - roads blocked with snow and electricity is off and on. John Boakes in North Yorkshire."

1455 UPDATE:

This from our old friend Verna Enebo: "Hi Eddie, This picture was taken yesterday from the dining room window. The snow stopped falling for a bit but more fell later.
Overnight the roads have turned very icy, making exercising the hound more of a slide-about than a walkabout. Living in SE Norway can be quite an adventure..."

Gorgeous! I'd love to be there, it would be fun. Snowballs, etc. Oh, and no little green men to hit me, Eddie.

    Lovely pictures.

This looks like my back garden in Ilkley.

What was John Humphreys on about this morning when he said there was no snow?

I have successfully slipped and slided my way to work every day this week in Skipton although we have had heavy snow every day.

I have a front wheel drive car which works ok. The folk with the 'posh' rear wheel drive cars such as BMW, Mercedes and Audi seem to be uncontrollable (they are abandoned all over the place -it is like the road to Basra in the First Gulf War).

When are we going to stop them being sold?

R 4, I drove rear wheel drive cars in the US in worse weather than you are seeing here, including a van with no weight over the rear wheels, with no problems.

Driving in snow is about knowing how to drive in snow. I passed my test in an inch of snow in 1979, when we had a run of snowy winters, so it holds no particular worries for me. But people who see it once every N years (where N is a largeish number) have no chance of learning how to manage their cars, front or rear wheel drive. Faced with 2-3 inches of quiet snow (no drifting), the only thing to worry about is the unpracticed driver. And if you don't get snow, how can you ever learn? Offer them a lift and some sympathy; there are probably situations where their rear wheel drives will be the better solution and you may need to depend on their compassion and understanding.

    Nice pics, by the way!

If a half-inch of snow falls in Bristol just before the evening rush-hour, it will probably delay people by up to three hours on their homeward journeys.

If a half-inch of snow falls in Bradford just before the evening rush-hour, chances are nobody will really notice.

Lovely photos. But it's been a bit grim up North (Yorks), they said on the news - hope power's back for froggers and their friends and neighbours.

Yikes, the posts about rear-wheel drives remind me of one fantastic weekend in Northumbria in January, when I drove (a hired) one in the snow and eventually glided gracefully into a nicely-cushioned roadside just outside the village on my way up. Thank goodness. Didn't half give me a surprise.

I'd learned to drive in snow in a front-wheel drive... it just didn't work the same...

What an entrance, though... And everyone in the pub next day had a good laugh (grrrrr), especially the garage owner, who cost us a few pints. My ego: dented for 10 minutes. Car: absolutely fine.

I used to put winter tyres on my car. Modern road tyres have NO grip in even the lightest dusting of snow. Current and previous vrm vrm have 4 wheel drive systems. That also works.

Those are just lovely. I've seen two lorts of snow so far this year but neither have been quite so picturesque. I'm jealous!
