Tell me Eddie, in complete confidence of course, after all, there are only the two of us present... This pre-occupation with Harps, is there somethi.. well, you know, something you're trying to tell me/us?
Okay, let's discuss the "Heffalump" in the room. Are you perhaps "indicating" that you'll soon be with the Heavenly-Choir and playing a harp? I guess I can at a s-t-r-e-t-c-h (am I going the right way?) see you as a cherub - please Lord don't strike, I jest...
lordbeddgelert, very sad to see music lessons being hit, especially for what is surely the national instrument of Wales. It's far too easy to see cuts like that as a quick way to reduce a budget rather than remembering that children who learn to play musical instruments are very unlikely to be out mugging old ladies or just being a general nuisance. I really regret not having had lessons available during my childhood and am so glad my children did.
This is a very slightly later article on the same topic, but I'm afraid I don't know the latest - no news in this case does not appear to be good news, as there appears to be no money in the budget at this time.
£ 40k for a harp teacher, who would cover a lot of ground, not just one school, seems cheap when one compares it to the vast billions being thrown at the banks at the moment..
And it seems a ridiculous use of funds to throw £ 13 million at the home of the Welsh National Opera, the Millennium Centre, when we can't provide teaching for the next generation of musicians to play there..
Many moons ago, I was in a Uni orchestra. It needed a harp for one piece - I forget which, Elgar probably. The harp was brought in, held up on high by the harpist, one-handed, as he weaved his way to his place.
Not something you're likely to forget, but wish camera phones were around in those deep, dark days of the early '80s.

Eddie - I've got a number of photographs taken of me when I've been harpist - but I don't suppose you would want them.

I want that dress! And I started on a harp exactly the same as that, and it's still at my parent's house.
What a beautiful picture.

I wonder whether the Trevor Taylor whose strapline is gracing the blog today is the same Trevor Taylor who makes Taylor Made Productions for the BBC.

(19) I suspect she wasn't playing at the time of the photo, otherwise the fingers would be blurred.
Beautiful picture, though, Anne.
