Here's your regular set of links to prove that it's not all doom and gloom in the news. It's a fairly diverse set today, so I can't link them together in a coherent narrative. But anyway, here they are for your perusal:
Here's an unusual book...

Eddie,
Big deal, a friend of mine used to sing with the Cleveland Orchestra chorus.

DG'd better hurry up with his statement. It's nearly time for the Six.

F_O 3, Lesley Douglas has resignationed.

Lesley Douglas has gone.
Dreadful. The hard-working people who are at the coal-face, take the risks and please the audience are shafted, while the BBC Trust pulls the trigger.
Just like when 'Dame' Pauline Neville - Jones stitched up Greg Dyke over Hutton.
Have you learned nothing, or will we see yet more grovelling, capitulation and the surrender of your independence to the Government. Get a backbone !!

I know, DMcN, and Eddie's deciphering a statement from the Trust.

lBG 5, Lesley Douglas, a hard-working person at the coal face?! Get real! I wonder what her salary was.

F_O 6, I hope Ed's deciphering my spelling. Think I'll go look at my Autumn photo again.

David McNickle - Just what is your point exactly. She was the one who showed the wit, wisdom and imagination to bring Brand to Radio6Music, and she was, until today, running a major national radio station - are you saying that someone else made those decisions, or that she just sat at home while others ran the station for her ?
I suspect that she has achieved far more than you with her life, which possibly does explain why you seem rather envious of her.

mittfh, I passed the Westfield megacentre today. People as thick on the ground as swarming ants. I did not feel tempted.

lBG 10, You said Douglas worked at the coal face, not me. No need to get personal about it.
Douglas hired them, is still sticking up for them, so has to go.

I liked the show as always (p.s. this is my first non-rb post).
I particularly liked the peice on Antony Hegarty - is s/he actually transgender? I was never sure, although I suppose the singing voice is quite gender neutral.
If you haven't already heard him properly, the two albums I have are fab!

J_O_E_L_-_C (13) I enjoyed it too - how nice to hear something pleasant in the programme!
I'm envious of anyone who has tickets for Antony's concert at the Barbican. I'm sure it will be wonderful.

Could someone wake me up when the newspapers start reporting real news, rather than "Manuelgate", as one paper appears to have nicknamed the Brand/Woss/Sachs controversy?
Contrary to popular belief, there are newsworthy stories that have a much greater global significance than this...

Global Smobal! If you want world news there is always the World Service. Anything that gets them of the subject of the the credit crunch (munch, munch) has got to be good for the economy.

Charlie @ 14, heh! Dogs in this country haven't had licences since before Thatcher got the push, and the licences weren't renewed every five years then, they were annual. Maybe he meant that dogs get renewed every five years, which is what the headline actually says...
I wonder whether Cleese keeps or ever kept a dog?

C_G 18, As Cleese spends most of his time in the US (?California), maybe Cal. has dog licenses. Ohio did when I was a kid and I still have the tag that we got for our dog. Looks like a military dog tag, hence the term.

I think it was last night that a discussion took place on loans to businesses. The bankers' representative was going on about only lending (our money) to solid business plans etc. Next time one of them is on can you remind them that without our - and small businesses tax money - they would be bust. Where was their solid business plan? It was their dubious activities that drove the world to bankruptcy - not the small business. It was not that long ago but they seem to have forgotten and it does no harm to remind them.

Are tables in the glass box designed not to hold any drinks? They seem to slope. Is this deliberate or is it modern?
