Is this some 'scam' to lure you back across the Forth? You haven't lost the accent, yet.
If all the BBC 'scots' return home, there'll be a lot of empty seats in BH. Still, it will give "Jonny-thong Woss" a chance to earn his weekly pittence, eh?

Afternoon Eddie. Let us not "split" hairs about broadcasting in Scotland.

Norway. The lovely - or should I say "Purdey" Joanna Lumley was fulfilling a lifes ambition in tracking down the Northern Lights. BBC One yesterday.

Isn't Peter Kay and Frankie Boyle where they always were?

But she was finally seen gazing in wonder at what I suspect most Norwegians shrug at and say - in Norse of course - "So what?" Bright lights caused by cosmic rays hitting Earth's atmosphere. Wonderful spectacle but the one with the ownership of several towns said earlier - "It had to be colder to be seen".

So after sleeping in an Ice Hotel - many of those in Scotland? - Joanna listed what clothing she had "on" to keep warm - in order to stand in the cold Norwegian air waiting for the light show.

I fell asleep at the fifth layer and her description spoilt a life time of me imagining the opposite for her various and younger screen incarnations.

Broadcasting in Norway seems preferably - don't you think? But then I have in my minds eye Joanna lying flat on her back - to get a better view of - eh - the light show!

    Absolutely fabulous!

    Gillianian,

Since when did English schools have Proms. Is this another American import like Tick or Treat?

BTW, what (which or whose) tartan is your son wearing?

As for Scottish broadcasting, what will be the remit for Scottish languages I wonder ( I've heard there are at least two other than English)?

Should Shetland and Orkney have their own service perhaps? The possibilities are endless.

Who should pay? It would be an interesting precedent for the licence fee not to go solely to the BBC. Opens all sorts of possiblities. Some of them unwelcome.

Anyway, my conclusion is that if the BBC is too British for the English and too English for the Scottish, even the avowed Unionists, perhaps it is time we all went our own ways.

On a minor demographic point, probably more than half of Scotland's people live South of the Forth...

It seems that every day we hear some story related to Scotish independance, or how unhappy these people are. I'm not anti-Scottish, I simply don't want to hear them moan all the time. Are they proud of the fact that the rest of us have to listen to this year after year? Why not have a vote in the rest of the UK and kick these moaners out? If they are in such a rush to throw away hundreds of years of shared history, why should we try to convince that that we are worthy of thier time. At least we could lower the taxes for the rest of us.
