Pandas...
...in Chinese art. Tonight, Nigel Wrench will be with Zhang Qikai who created these....
...and telling us why collectors are paying millions of pounds for contemporary Chinese art. In case you'd like one, these large oils, on show at the Marlborough Gallery in London, start at £43,800.
1405 UPDATE: ...and here is Mr Zhang with "Crossing the English Channel in the same posture" snapped at the gallery this morning. He'll be talking about it on PM.

Is it just me or do the first two pandas look rather precariously placed? The first one is about to bit hit by a drop of hot wax, and the second is rather uncomfortably placed between two thorns. I think I'd much rather be the panda in the VW Beatle...

Something wrong with the third one down - that's not a Panda Car!

The panda in the car can only be sitting there because a Panda has short little legs so he wouldn't be able to push the pedals!
Anyway whoever heard of a panda car?

MGL(4) - If I write "Great minds think alike" someone will say "Fools seldom differ", so I won't!

I prefer the VW ads with the singing dog, personally. Not a fan of photorealism in art anyway, and these pictures do not appeal.

A VW driver with two lovely black eyes.
Must be a retro drive through Golders Green.

Why is the bottom panda British?
Er not to my taste I'm afraid. You'd have to pay me £43,800 to put any of those on my wall.

MGL(3): "Whoever heard of a panda car?"
a) Colloquialism for a police car (from the days when their livery was black and white - i.e. before they were covered in fluorescent day-glo yellow stickers)
b) IIRC, Fiat make a car called the Panda.
HTH, HAND.

I'd paint pandas for fourty three thousand eight hundred smackers.
In fact, I'd have a go at painting anything you wanted...

I'm sorry, but Nigel Wrench's interview didn't give me any more understanding or appreciation of the paintings.
And the new Andy Warhol???? Not THIS chap!!!

With my pedant's cap firmly on over my anorak:
Surely, the fourth picture implies the speedboat is either a ship of the Royal Navy, or else the Monarch is on board?
(Flying the Union flag).
At least it's the right way up, and not indicating in distress as well!

deepthought @ 21, wearing an even more fur-lined collar to the anorak, I suspect that nobody at all should be flying a union flag on a jackstaff to the stern of a vessel; the RN wouldn't, AFAIK, even if they had the monarch aboard (which this panda clearly hasn't), because like any other British citizen they would be flying an ensign of the appropriate colour there, not a national flag. (The Union Jack would be elsewhere on the vessel.)
Not that it matters one way or the other when one is busy getting out of the way of a speeding panda that is clearly unsafe to be driving that thing at all. Look at that wake for goodness sake!
