He shouldn't. It shows his lovely, gentle smile.
Good afternoon Hugh. Looking forward to your report.

Oh, I'm sorry, it's made me cry. I hadn't heard it in full before, and this presentation (complete with Mrs. Slocombe) is such a profound way of putting it into context.
I just want to say two things:
To Hugh - Thank you. Thank you so much.
To this family, and to all Iraqis: I hope the day will not be far away when you can all live in peace in your homeland.

I should have said one more thing: Thank you Eddie for posting it up.
If Hugh hates that photo, perhaps you should find one he likes? :o)

Nice picture, Hugh.
The music I listen to sometimes is called just "The Sky Lark Ascending" isn't it?
Not the Mudlark? There was a film.
IMDb reminded me - Andrew Ray - the same - Ted Ray's lad - the latter a My Music stalwart. My music?
Yeah - the picture is fine Mr Sykes.

The photo looks ok to me but then again I hate all photos of myself. Maybe you use one of Eric Sykes instead next time (?any relation?!)

I agree, GM, the photo looks fine to me too. Incidentally, I see Mr. Sykes is, unlike Eddie, not a quadlatte man. :o)

Yes - a very moving report. Nice to see it with the montage of pictures.
Hugh has a great voice - in the same genre as Laurie Taylor and Roger Bolton.
Somehow it's not just the timbre of his voice though. His inflection is always spot on.
Great Journalism Hugh - I hope some of the less talented listen and learn.

Jonnie: Sorry to disagree, but while I don't dislike the voices of the other presenters you mention, Hugh's voice is in quite another class. It carries within it a sense of humanity that the other two don't, imho, convey.

BS 10, My cat had a nice voice, being a Persian.

BigSis - I think we are thinking on similar lines - perhaps it's that Hugh tends to cover the sensitive issues..
Listen to Michael Buerk and his coverage of the Ethiopian Famine? or indeed Kate Adie who has reported on the most trajic scenes.
Either way BigSis - I agree Hugh has a great voice. I personally think that all reporters, foreign journalists employed by the BBC are terrific and the likes of Hugh along with John Simpson and the aforementioned at the pinnacle.

David: Didn't I see a bunch of protestors carrying his placards in Trafalgar Square the other week?

Ah, Jonnie, I forgot. The Kabul liberator. Which reminds of another of Hugh's strengths: his humility.

BS 19, No, that was the Predestinationists Party.

Now, Hugh, you know how we all like to put a face to the name . . .
I just love Hugh's reporting. It's sensitive and genuine; getting across a lot more in just over 3 minutes than many journalists could do in hours. Hugh lets people speak for themselves - and that's when we get the real story.
